What Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale previewed for season 2

The midwinter special of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina could give some hints at what will happen in the second season of the series.

For Netflix shows, fans usually have to wait around a year or so to get new episodes of their favorite television. Though we may wait impatiently (and vent about it on Twitter), it’s almost always worth it when a new season finally debuts.

Fans of the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina didn’t have to wait long for new content this year though.

After the first season came out in October, Netflix put out a winter special last week called “A Midwinter’s Tale.” The new episode isn’t a flashback or irrelevant either. It happens directly after the last episode of the first season.

And we can thank our lucky stars (or perhaps the Dark Lord) because season 2 is coming fairly soon, April 5 to be exact. While fans wait to see what is next for Sabrina and everyone else in her twisted magical life, the winter special night hold some clues.

Here are a few things we took away from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale and what they could mean for season 2.

Zelda is going to give away baby Letitia.

After realizing that the baby could be in danger if she keeps her as her own to raise, Zelda decides in this December special to give Letitia up to Desdemona, who will raise her in the woods, far from the eyes of Father Blackwood. This seems like a quick solution to a problem that was set up at the end of the first season, but it might not be as simple as that. Even if the baby doesn’t continue to be much of a plot point, this storyline does show Zelda’s growth as a character. Though Sabrina’s aunt tries so very hard to follow witchy rules, perhaps she may break and try to revisit Letitia in the woods — just to see the baby one more time.

We learn a little more about Sabrina’s mother, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

In the episode, Sabrina performs a seance to call forth her mother, Diana, as she wants to help her escape limbo. Her mother helps her save baby Letitia from Gryla in the episode. When Diana sees that Sabrina is being well-taken care of, she realizes she doesn’t have unfinished business left on Earth. While this seems to tie things up nicely, there are still a lot of questions about Sabrina’s parents and what really happened to them. We’ve mentioned how we’d like to see more of Edward Spellman in season 2, for instance. Sabrina’s spent plenty of (ghostly) time with her human mother. But what about her magical ancestry? Knowing Sabrina, she’ll be incredibly curious and likely seek out more info regarding Edward in season 2 — seeing as she’s starting to fully embrace her darker ways.

Sabrina is struggling to connect with her human friends and getting along better with the Weird Sisters.

While there weren’t too many big drama moments involving Sabrina’s relationship with her friends, there were some hints what might be going on with those relationships in season 2. Roz and Susie seem uncomfortable with the whole witch thing still, and Sabrina doesn’t know how to broach it with them. Hopefully, the fact that Sabrina saved Susie from that Yule demon will count for something though, right? At the same time, Sabrina is getting more friendly with the Weird Sisters. This could all point to her embracing more of her witchy side in episodes to come.

Harvey is clearly still in a bad place after the events of last season, and he doesn’t want anything to do with magic.

Harvey and Sabrina’s relationship will likely be full of a lot of ups and downs in the next season if this winter special is any indication. While the two do interact in the special, they definitely aren’t on great terms. Sabrina uses magic to help Harvey’s dad get over his alcoholism, and Harvey isn’t here for it — at all. He understandably has a bad taste in his mouth about magic after everything that happened with his brother. Harvey tells Sabrina not to use magic on him or his family ever again and returns her present. “A Midwinter’s Tale” previews a long and tough road ahead for these former lovebirds.

Sabrina wants to embrace both sides of herself, but she’s turning into a major witch.

If this special is any indication of the future, Sabrina will likely continue to rely more on her witch side and her witch friends. It seems as even though they haven’t pushed her away completely that her human friends aren’t quite ready to deal with the fact that she has magical powers. As for Sabrina herself, she’s growing and learning to come into her own. So much of season 1 focused on others telling her what to be, how to act, who to be loyal to, and so on. If this special indicates anything, it’s that Sabrina may be more into magic than she’d even like to admit.
