Avengers: Endgame trailer: Did the Avengers really lose Shuri?

Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame and we had a lot of feelings and a lot of tears, but we’re also wondering where in the universe is Shuri?

You already know what happened at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but we’re going to summarize it anyway because it’s our coping mechanism to remind everyone about the snap (just like it’s the Russo brothers’ coping strategy to remind us of another unfortunate event in Infinity War).

As a brief recap, Thanos momentarily won and a lot of Avengers turned into a vacuum cleaner’s perfect dream. We all cried a lot, and some of us are still crying after Marvel unveiled the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame. Apart from making us sob all over again, the trailer raises one important question: where in the world is Shuri?

Around the 1:17 timestamp, Bruce Banner is looking through a projected screen of missing heroes. Scott Lang, the variant-sized hero who’s stuck in the Quantum Realm, is obviously missing. Right before the neighboring slide switches to a new Avenger’s status, viewers notice that Shuri is also listed as missed.

We just want to know how the Avengers lost a child.

We get it. They were a bit overwhelmed the last time we saw them. Seeing your friends and loved ones turn into ashes can be a bit distracting for anyone. However, we refuse to believe that Shuri was claimed by “The Decimation” as well.

After all, Angel Bassett, who portrays Queen Ramonda, said earlier this year that she didn’t believe character or her daughter Shuri were dusted. We know that Bassett wouldn’t lie to us, so we just want to have a long discussion with the Avengers about how they managed to misplace a person.

We won’t even say the tragedy that happened in Infinity War and Shuri’s name in the same breath. Granted, we do need to think logically about this, and we can’t even imagine that Shuri was snapped — not just because she’s one of our favorite characters, but because it logically doesn’t even make sense.

If the time travel fan theories are true, the remaining Avengers are going to need a genius with necessary technological resources at hand. The only person that we know to fit the bill is Shuri.

Sure, Tony and Bruce are still alive and they’re also geniuses, but Shuri is the smartest hero in the MCU. If anyone is going to be able to create a device that can propel the Avengers forward in time or Quantum leap them backward in time, then it’s the smartest Avenger.

So, if Shuri wasn’t dusted (because we’re still rightfully in denial), then what has she been up to? Honestly, we’re not sure — especially since we’re not sure why she’d distance herself from the Avengers if she’s still alive.

However, Shuri could naturally just be grieving the loss of her people and her brother, while simultaneously concocting a device to take Thanos down.
