Can we talk about this terrifyingly bizarre Captain Marvel toy?
By Mia Johnson
Hasbro released a neat line of toys for the movie Captain Marvel. But one of the toys, featuring Carol Danvers’ cat Goose, is beyond explanation.
Captain Marvel is taking a huge leap forward not only in the movie world, but in the toy world as well. Only a few years ago, it’d be impossible to find a female superhero toy, especially in that classic 11.5-inch size. (Sure you’d find a few action figures on the market, but that’s comparing apples to oranges.)
Now, with the second Captain Marvel trailer behind us, Captain Marvel toys are slowly being revealed ahead of their release. Part of those reveals includes the new line from Hasbro, which has a mix of frankly incredible 11.5-inch dolls and more action-figure like toys.
But, it’s not the dolls of Captain Marvel that have caught our attention today. There’s one toy in particular that may leave you saying “WTF” after you see it. Take a look below at toy featuring Nick Fury and Carol Danvers’ “cat,” Goose.

As evident by the picture, something is seriously wrong with Goose here. In the trailer, we see Nick Fury was seriously enamored with the so-called cat, and couldn’t help but petting the adorable little buddy ’til the cows come home.
But we call Goose a “so-called cat” because comic book lore tells us Goose the cat might be something else. Back when Goose was named Chewie in the comics, Carol Danvers thought it was just a normal housecat. But, according to the Marvel Wiki page, it wasn’t until Carol met the Guardians of the Galaxy that Rocket told her Chewie was actually an alien species known as a Flerken. We might not see Rocket make a surprise cameo in Captain Marvel but it very well may be that Goose ends up being said Flerken and we find out in this movie.
Otherwise, why else would Nick Fury have the poor thing chained up to the high heavens with ankle cuffs, handcuffs, and a facemask? (As SyFy Wire points out, this looks just like when Loki was all locked up. Is the cat really that bad?)
It’s probably clear that Fury will be pretty freaked out by this thing if it starts laying eggs or doing generally shocking alien stuff. Also, the cat is standing on its hind legs, so something is clearly amiss here.
Now, the context behind the toy is clearly all Marvel’s doing. But I’m questioning why any child ages four years and up would be delighted to see such a terrifyingly destressed cat in the first place. Maybe these figures will strike it more with the adult audiences because even a Nick Fury toy might not be the most-requested action figure from a child. (No judgment if they’re totally down with the Fury. He’s still cool).
That being said, head over to the next page to check out a few of the best, non-suspicious toys Hasbro has in its Captain Marvel lineup.

Captain Marvel Doll And Marvel’s Goose
Here we have a more loving, adorable looking cat — which was a much better move for a kids toy. If this toy is any indicator of the movie, Goose will be coming along on some adventures!

Here’s another more realistic looking Goose the cat. It’s definitely not as terrifying as the one accompanying Nick Fury. Plus, we love Captain Marvel sporting her bomber jacket over her suit.

Captain Marvel Photon Power FX Glove
Think back to those days when your brother or boy cousin got Hulk Hands and Iron Man gloves for birthdays, Christmas, etc. Even if you saw them in the store, it’d likely be a boy who was modeling the toy on the packaging. This might be a simple power glove toy, but it means so much to see a young girl being able to get in on the superhero toy action, too! Any kid can play with it, but we’re glad the marketing has finally opened up to all kids.

Captain Marvel Photon Power FX Doll
On this 11.5-inch doll, Captain Marvel has fists of fury’ the bad guys better watch out. This doll is electronic too, so it looks like it’ll come with a couple of sounds built in.

This 11.5-inch doll features Carol Danvers, but in her Kree military uniform. It also includes her mask that gives her the classic mohawk look we saw in the trailers and in the comics.
These toys above and more from Hasbro will be out January 2019.
