Star Wars Resistance preview: Kaz and Poe receive a distress signal

In a new preview for the upcoming episode of Star Wars Resistance, “Signal from Sector Six,” Poe and Kaz are flying their X-wings when they receive a distress signal from a damaged ship nearby.

Turns out, the ship Poe and Kaz find has been attacked by pirates. There’s no doubt in our minds these are the same pirates from “The Triple Dark.” Last time we saw them, pirate leader Kragan Gorr had been in touch with Captain Phasma and Major Vonreg. Gorr promised them they would do a better job at pressuring Captain Doza into an alliance with the First Order.

We haven’t seen much of them lately, but we briefly heard about their activities in “The High Tower.” Major Vonreg mentioned the pirates had been raiding the shipments headed to the Colossus. That’s partially the reason why the station had run low on fuel, causing the power outages. We wonder if this freight ship was on its way to the Colossus with more supplies when it got attacked.

If that’s the case, is this going to be a trap of some kind? We know the pirates are looking to deliver the Colossus to the First Order, so are they trying a more subtle angle? This would be the perfect way for someone like Synara San, Kragan Gorr’s second-in-command, to infiltrate. In fact, we theorized earlier in the series how Synara could be a potential source of information for Kaz, so here’s hoping something like that comes true in the near future.

Watch Poe and Kaz approach the damaged ship in this recent clip:

Before Poe and Kaz check out the distress signal, however, Poe says, “Looks like the fun is over.” We can’t say for sure, but we like to think Poe and Kaz have a race of their own while flying in space. Sometimes, a little downtime is needed to recharge and increase productivity. If that’s the case, it’ll be great to see them in a more relaxed state.

Maybe Poe will teach Kaz some much-needed moves and techniques. We know Yeager is the father figure in the show, but Poe comes across as the older brother. Kaz gives us the impression he’s the only child, especially given how his father wants him to follow a certain path in life. Poe might be the older brother Kaz wishes he had, so we can’t wait to see the two of them bond and possibly get to know each other better.

Something else to note in this clip is how there are several life signs aboard the damaged ship, some of which might be the “strange lifeforms,” as described in the official synopsis. Could this ship be carrying people or creatures from the Unknown Regions? Given what we learned about Tehar in last week’s episode, it could be possible others besides the First Order are raiding the Unknown Regions for resources. Ultimately, we don’t know what these lifeforms could be and what makes them strange, but they might hold some value if the pirates decided to raid their ship.

Lastly, we get a brief look at Kaz’s simplistic views about the Resistance. He has a black-and-white perspective that doesn’t include the whole picture. The Resistance is more than just a force against the First Order. They help people in need regardless of who attacks them.

Sometimes, people solely focus on the tension between the Resistance and the First Order and forget there are other terrible things in the galaxy. It serves as a good reminder to Kaz and the audience, especially since we won’t be seeing the First Order in every single episode. There will be other obstacles to overcome along the way.
