Star Wars Resistance preview: Elijah Wood guest stars as a sky racer

Kaz goes out for a joyride with a new friend in this Star Wars Resistance preview, but what he doesn’t realize is how he might be playing a part in someone else’s selfish plans.

Besides BB-8, Kaz doesn’t have any friends on the Colossus. Tam seems annoyed with him more than half the time and Yeager doesn’t appear to be the sit back and relax kind of guy. Neeku is the only one who approaches him in a friendly manner, but that’s pretty much it. Granted, he’s on a mission for the Resistance, so making friends isn’t a priority. That said, making connections is important as a spy because that’s how he’ll be able to gather information.

In this next episode, Kaz is sort of branching out from Yeager’s shop and making some new friends in other parts of the Colossus. The thing is it looks like Kaz is making friends with the wrong kind of people. One of them is Jace Rucklin. The blond-haired, green-eyed young man seems innocent enough, but looks can be deceiving.

Setting aside this sketchy character for a moment, fans will be excited to know Rucklin is voiced by Elijah Wood. Wood isn’t a stranger to the world of voiceover. In fact, he voiced Wirt in Over the Garden Wall and Beck in Tron: Uprising. Another interesting fact? His co-star from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dominic Monaghan, is part of the Episode IX cast.

Catch a glimpse of Wood’s voice-work as Jace in this recently released preview:

Despite being voiced by someone who portrayed a friendly and heroic Hobbit, Rucklin doesn’t have the best intentions and he’s luring Kaz in with this playful joyride over the ocean water. He and his gang are after a specific kind of hyperfuel that exists in Yeager’s private office.

Rucklin is first and foremost a sky racer, so it stands to reason he wants this hyperfuel for his own ship. The hyperfuel, however, is described as rare and dangerous. Does it have side-effects when being used? Is it toxic to people? Or is it labeled dangerous as a way to prevent others from stealing Yeager’s precious fuel?

Whatever the case may be, Kaz will have to make a decision. Will he choose these new friends over Yeager? Or will he respect Yeager’s privacy and stop them from stealing the hyperfuel?

We know Kaz is a good person because he helped save Grevel and the Colossus from the pirate attack in the previous episode. Will he be consistent in making the right call? If not, he’s going to be in serious trouble with Yeager and put his mission with the Resistance at risk.
