Captain Marvel looks great in new images, but there’s no trailer yet

Although Captain Marvel still remains without a trailer, it seems like things are about to seriously start ramping up for the film’s promotion.

Well, to some, this might have been the biggest letdown of a very young month. Yesterday, Brie Larson teased that Entertainment Weekly would help her “break the internet” today at noon Eastern time. Now that it’s past noon, we can officially say that no, this did not really have the impact we were expecting.

To make a long story short, Larson as Carol Danvers will grace the cover of the magazine’s new issue out this week, and to celebrate, EW released the cover as well as some quotes from co-director Anna Boden and Larson herself.

Check out the cover below:

Okay, to be fair, there are some good points here. One, Carol looks ready for action in her signature red, gold, and blue suit, perhaps further underscoring that she may wear different suits in the film thanks to previous set photos as well as merch. Additionally, the cover emphasizes once again that Carol is the “most powerful” hero.

As for the quotes in the included article, one of Boden’s puts some nuance on that “most powerful” declaration. “This is not a superhero who’s perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection,” she told EW; Larson’s quotes also emphasize that Captain Marvel “can be a little invasive and in your face.”

All the same, she’s still who gets the call to fight Thanos once and for all, as we know from the end of Avengers: Infinity War. With Captain Marvel preceding Avengers 4, Carol will have an entire movie to establish her strength, even if she’s not quite “godlike,” as well as her flaws. Here’s hoping the movie strikes the right balance.

With this cover, though, one has to suspect a trailer is coming sooner rather than later. Make your predictions in the comments below!
