The second day of San Diego Comic-Con had some big news coming out, even if it wasn’t exactly planned news prior to the convention.

When the second day of San Diego Comic-Con started, people had no idea what was to be had. First, there was a huge announcement that shook the convention for the entire day.

James Gunn fired from Guardians

James Gunn has always been very vocal on Twitter about politics. That open willingness came back to haunt him when people found tweets that Gunn had sent out around 2008 that were extremely questionable. From there, Disney took action and within hours it was announced that he was no longer the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Obviously, James Gunn didn’t show up for his panel later that day and was removed from Sony’s announcements. So while the initial news from Gunn wasn’t part of the Comic-Con circuit, it did affect his involvement with the convention.

Buffy is back

Today was also a big day for fans of Buffy as it was announced that a reboot is in the works with Joss Whedon as part of it. It is interesting that Whedon is bringing back Buffy after losing his Batgirl.

Monica Owusu-Breen from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be the reboot’s showrunner as well as write the script. The biggest detail to come from the reboot news is that a black woman will take on the title role, which was originally played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Walking Dead previews new enemy

The Walking Dead‘s panel gave us a big look into season 9 when the official SDCC trailer dropped. The ominous preview into next season set up Rick’s departure from the show, as well as previewed a terrifying new enemy everyone will face — the Whisperers.

Andrew Lincoln was given a standing ovation by the panel and his costars, a fitting final SDCC for the show’s leading man. The whole cast got in on a group hug before leaving, and we can imagine there were quite a few tears from the crowd.

Star Trek: Discovery shares first look at second season

A first look at season 2 for Star Trek: Discovery was shared by the show’s SDCC panel. It looks as if the crew of the USS Discovery is about to embark on a new voyage.

Young Justice: Outsiders reunites the team

Entertainment Weekly debuted a first look at Young Justice: Outsiders. The third season will follow Nightwing, Superboy, Aqualad, and more young DC heroes on new adventures. It’s been three long years for fans, but the show is finally back to view on DC’s new streaming service, DC Universe.
