Helena Bonham Carter looks like she’s ready to take Princess Margaret up a notch after stepping into her shoes for the upcoming season of The Crown.
Though The Crown has some time before it returns next year, Netflix has released first looks of its new cast.
Netflix’s award winning series The Crown premiered in 2016, a show that chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II. Claire Foy, who played the Queen, led a cast of extraordinary actors who lived out a time frame between the 1940s to 1960s.
Though the new season is taking off right where the last one ended with the year of 1964, season 3 will include a whole new set of actors replacing the original cast to showcase the proper age.
For instance, the Queen will now be played by Olivia Colman. On Monday, the show’s Twitter account released its first look with a picture of Colman sipping tea as Queen Elizabeth often does. They captioned the picture “patience,” possibly a sneak peek into what we can expect from the character.

The Crown has now released a picture of the highly anticipated return of Princess Margaret, played by Helena Bonham Carter. Carter often plays intense characters, and no doubt she is ready to stir the pot with this one. The photo below was captioned “Hope.” Since season 3 takes place between 1964 to 1976, hope is something she will need.

Princess Margaret is now a mother, but this was also the time when her famous relationship with filmmaker husband Lord Snowdon, played by Ben Daniels, fell to its last crumbles.

His picture was captioned “Hurt,” and that is very fitting to his character and the couple as their divorce took place in 1978. With this season, we will get to see what led to the divorce.
Though Carter seems to be the perfect fit to play Princess Margaret, she has some big shoes to fill. Vanessa Kirby played the part for the first two seasons, and she was highly praised for it. She was so good that even Carter was nervous to take over the role.
“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about: Doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret.” Carter said following news of her being cast. “The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter than Vanessa.”
Don’t worry HBC, Kirby knows you got this!
“I couldn’t think of anyone better. We text each other all the time, and she sends me photos and wants my scripts and notes and playlists. I think she’s going to take Margaret up a level. She sent me a photo of her and Olivia making silly faces like, ‘We’ve got the baton, but I think we’ve dropped it,'” Kirby told The Hollywood Reporter in June.
