Samuel L. Jackson praises Brie Larson’s dedication to getting Captain Marvel right

Samuel L. Jackson, who’s worked with Brie Larson before Captain Marvel, says the actress has a lot of commitment to her role as Carol Danvers.
Heads up: this contains spoilers about Avengers: Infinity War.
If Brie Larson is going to play the first female superhero to get her own MCU solo movie, she’s making sure she’s going to get it right. And while Marvel hasn’t released a lot of information about the upcoming film, her Marvel co-star Samuel L. Jackson can attest to her work.
Jackson spoke to Vulture about his some of his upcoming projects, and that includes Captain Marvel. He’ll be returning to the MCU to reprise his role as Nicky Fury but instead of appearing as a bag of dust (you know, considering he withered away in Infinity War), he’ll appear as a younger version of himself — rightly so, because Captain Marvel takes place in the ’90s.
Since the two have been working closely yet again (before this, it was in Kong: Skull Island), Jackson had some nice words to say about Larson, who’s really been studying up for the character.
“She wants it to be a special film, she wants it to represent women, she wants it to be a film that has heart and depth,” Jackson said in the interview.
Jackson pointed out, for example, that Larson would research important information for the film and her character, Carol Danvers. That included who was the first female pilot and what struggles went along with that achievement. (Danvers was in the Air Force before she took on the Captain Marvel persona).
“She wants to make sure all of that is embodied in the character to give it the justice of the woman’s struggle, to follow her from where she was to becoming this great force because she’s the most powerful character in the Marvel universe,” Jackson added.
Although, it seems like sometimes the whole “first solo female MCU film” might be a little bit too much for Larson as she strives to get the character right. So Jackson revealed he’s been able to help her keep her feet on the ground during the whole process.
Imitating his co-star, Jackson recalled Larson would say: “‘I’ve got to represent not just me, Brie as an actress, but every woman on the planet as a strong woman. This character means so much to the franchise!’”
And to that, his advice to her was: “Breathe. Just breathe. You are who you are and they hired you for a reason, so just do you.”
With this amount of dedication to the film, we know that Captain Marvel is panning out to be something truly big (and possibly even groundbreaking) for the MCU. The movie is already touting the MCU’s first female director, and the movie recently got the MCU’s first female composer as well.

Jackson also suggested in the interview that he knows how the conflict in Infinity War will be resolved in Avengers 4, mainly because Nick Fury knows Captain Marvel. Does anyone know if Jackson’s got a knack for telling spoilers like Tom Holland?
