Warning: How ready are you for Game of Thrones season 8 images and spoilers? Scroll down for the latest … if you dare!
The action of Game of Thrones season 8 will move to an easily photographed location sooner rather than later. If you’ve followed along with spoilers throughout this longest offseason, you’ve probably already seen photos of the infamous King’s Landing set. However, thanks to A Red Priestess on Twitter (with an additional hat tip to Watchers on the Wall), it looks like we now know when filming is starting, or we at least have a better idea.
That answer would be soon. As with other sets that have used green screens already, this is usually one of the last steps before the real work begins. (Check out the Magheramorne developments to see how the process works.)
So, the question now becomes: what is this green screen for?
Okay, unfortunately, it’s unlikely that we’ll get a truly concrete answer as to what’s going on with this set other than the already-spoiled word that it’ll be aflame. The green screen is most likely for doing some of the flame effects. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us who will provide the flame, as there are three options: Daenerys’ dragons, Viserion and then just wildfire of some sort.
There are other purposes for a green screen, though, of course. It’s probably not all just fire — we know that from Magheramorne, too. Additionally, the positioning of the screen makes us think it might also serve for part of an assault on the city to make it look as though there are more fighters coming towards the city than production has hired extras.
