Fifth Harmony announce indefinite “hiatus” for solo projects

Rumours of a split have been swirling about Fifth Harmony ever since Camila Cabello left the group. Now that they’ve announced their indefinite “hiatus”, is this officially the end of the girl group?

It’s a sad day for Fifth Harmony fans.

Six years after the group was formed on the short-lived The X-Factor US, Fifth Harmony announced in a statement via Twitter that they are going on a hiatus in order to pursue their own solo projects.

“After six years going hard, non stop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and you, we do need to take some time for now to go on a hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors,” the statement reads.

Camila Cabello, one of the original members of the girl group, went solo in December 2016. Fans worried this would split up Fifth Harmony for good. However, the remaining girls insisted they were not breaking up, and released their third studio album as a four-piece.

There’s no word on how long this hiatus is supposed to be. However, Dinah Jane, Lauren, Normani, and Ally assured fans in their statement that the shows they have planned through the end of the year will still go on.

The girls aren’t lying when they say they want to pursue solo endeavors. Before the announced hiatus, all of the members already had a taste of solo stardom. Lauren has had features on singles with Halsey and Steve Aoki, and Normani collaborated with Khalid on the song Love Lies for the Love, Simon soundtrack. Normani also finished in third place on Dancing With The Stars in 2017.

Dinah and Ally have also featured on tracks with artists like Daddy Yankee and A$AP Ferg.

While it’s always sad for a successful musical group to announce a split, even if it’s supposed to be temporary, this might be the best move for them. When One Direction announced their 2016 hiatus (which is still ongoing), it allowed for the members to all have successful solo projects. This is something unheard of for most boy band solo projects in the past.

They can call this a “hiatus” if they want, but most people already know this is a split. Maybe the girls will come together again in the future to unleash more pop bangers onto the world. Until then, may they all have as much success as Camila Cabello has had in her solo career.
