Who is speaking in the new Avengers: Infinity War ad?

In case you weren’t worried enough about Avengers: Infinity War, there’s now a new voice in a new ad saying something not-so-surprising.

There are plenty of mysteries surrounding Avengers: Infinity War, out on April 27. Who lives? Who dies? Will there be any deaths at all? Will Bucky Barnes finally get that haircut? Those are all grand questions, but now, with a tip of the hat to CBR, there’s another.

Who gets to say “The end is near” in the latest ad for the film? It’s a mystery CBR identifies as well, but other than ruling out Thanos and positing that it’s one of the Black Order, it doesn’t dive deep. Let’s do that work now.

With so many voices almost instantly recognizable after so many years of playing these characters, it’s almost refreshing to not know who this is at first listen. Check it out below:

Our first clues are these. The voice sounds like it has a fairly neutral American accent, and as CBR points out, it’s male. These immediately rule out Black Panther, Thor, Loki and Vision in the first case, and Black Widow, Okoye, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Nebula, Mantis and Shuri in the second.

And since we don’t recognize it, that pretty much rules out Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Wong, Star-Lord, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the Hulk, the Falcon, Rocket Raccoon, Groot (hey, he has a male voice) and Drax.

So who’s left of the listed cast on IMDb that’s even a reasonable possibility? Well, Benicio del Toro’s Collector isn’t spoken for yet. The voices aren’t exactly similar since there’s a certain clarity to the TV spot that can’t be found in Guardians of the Galaxy clips.

However, if anyone were to know whether or not things are coming to a head, it’s probably the Collector. He’s currently in possession of one of the Infinity Stones in question — the Aether, the Reality Stone.

Do you have a better idea of who might be speaking? Right now, we’re placing some mild confidence in the Collector — but we, by no means, are committing to that theory.
