Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 9 recap and review: Best Laid Plans
With Kasius playing god on this week’s Agents of SHIELD, who makes the first move? And will the team on the Earth make it to the Lighthouse in time?
There’s a lot to get to on this week’s Agents of SHIELD. Without further ado, let’s dive right in to this week’s episode.
Not-So-Short Summary and Analysis
On the Lighthouse, it’s nothing but chaos as Mack, Elena, and Flint wage war against the Kree. Kasius cannot believe the humans are winning and killing his own men. What’s Kasius’s latest “acquisition” he mentions?
Tess. Looking half dead. And very alive. But it’s not the first time we’ve seen Kree technology bring someone back from the dead. If Tess doesn’t bring him what he wants, he will end the human race. And the main thing he wants is Flint.
Mack and Yo-Yo send a message of their own to Kasius. Holding his research floor hostage until he meets them there, they’re prepped to wage their own war.
While they distract Kasius, the rest of humanity takes his triggered bombs and takes them all to one location to detonate at once. They also move themselves to a prime location so that the detonation puts a wall of solid rocks between them and the Kree.
Kasius isn’t happy.
The Zephyr has housed space rats for going on 80 years, so it’s not a surprise things don’t work. Coulson and Daisy have a bit of a heart-to-heart when it comes to her powers. He wants to take out her inhibitor, but she wants to keep it in. It’s safer if she can’t destroy the world.
At least she can still be Daisy Johnson, Agent of SHIELD.
You know what else is up this episode? FitzSimmons created the design for the gravitonium to power everything. And doom the human race (because they theorize it’s the gravitonium that helped destroy the world).
Of course, in classic SHIELD fashion, Sinara shows up as our team figures out how to make it to space. Oh, and Deke’s doing something shady at the same time. But at least his shadiness helps Daisy this time.
It’s another railing kill for Agents of SHIELD.
Post-Credits Stinger
Daisy gets in touch with Mack as they formulate a plan. Kasius readies a squad to meet the Zephyr on the landing pad. How does he know that’s where they’re going?
Turns out he has a seer of his own telling him the future.
Badass Moment of the Week
That zero-gravity fight between Daisy and Sinara is pretty good, but man, seeing the Zephyr make it to space … that’s some high-quality feels there.
Best One-Liner
All of May’s “Mom” faces.
Coulson asks Voss how he knows it was SHIELD who destroyed the world. As the story goes, there was a light from the sky, SHIELD tried to stop it and failed. That light started the destruction and Daisy finished it. Very vague.
Also, who do we think Kasius’s seer is? Somehow a different version of one of our SHIELD compatriots from a previous time loop? A different version of Robin? Doctor Strange?
Next: Avengers 4: Is there hope for Bucky Barnes?
Next week’s Agents of SHIELD shows a crazy killing spree by Kasius and Kasius looking insane. It should be fun!
