The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story took the world by storm last night and for good reason. It is incredible!

In a world of fans and fame, there is no better story than the true crime of the assassination of Gianni Versace. So of course we love the new American Crime Story season! With Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, it tells the harrowing tale of how a fan turned (maybe?) lover ended up being the reason that Versace lost his life.

For those who don’t know, Versace was shot and killed outside of his home in Miami, Florida by a man who claimed to once have a fling with Gianni. The problem is, Andrew Cunanan lied about everything.

No one knows what is real and what isn’t because the only real test to the truth that we have is a man who lied about every aspect of his life. Obsessed with Vogue and fashion in general, Andrew apparently met Versace in San Francisco and fell in love.

The show does an incredible job with the casting. Edgar Ramírez takes on Versace with Penélope Cruz as Donatella, but no one is as terrifying as Darren Criss. Criss presents Cunanan’s psychotic nature in tiny nuances. (And as Cunanan murdered five men before himself, that’s saying something.) But the end of the episode is really what gets you. He stares at the news about Versace and pretends to be shocked, like he has no idea how it happened or how it could.

Basically the show just focuses on the murder and why it is believed that Andrew did it. In this first episode, we’re just learning the basics. It’s more than enough to rope us in and have us longing for next week. Especially if that means more of Cruz as Donatella.

Maybe Ricky Martin will have more to do next week as well since this week, he was just giving us his best Jackie O performance as Versace’s lover.
