Saturday Night Live season 43 episode 7 review: Saoirse Ronan

This week, Saturday Night Live had the Irish takeover. And maybe we should let them take over a bit more. With host Saoirse Ronan, it was a great episode.

The Irish takeover of Saturday Night Live went pretty well this week. With host Saoirse Ronan and musical guest U2, the episode was just a typical Saturday Night Live but with a light-hearted twist. And oh, there were definitely potato jokes because there were a lot of Irish people around.

Cold Open

Donald Trump is visited by ghosts of his past, present and future. Or Billy Bush, Vladimir Putin and Hillary Clinton. And you know what happened by the end? Hillary got her comeuppance. She got to yell “lock him up”.

In term of a cold open, it was pretty tame. Not too bad and just tearing Trump apart. So most of the normal.

Monologue

Look, Saoirse Ronan isn’t exactly the easiest name to pronounce. And she knows it. So she made up a little song to help people pronounce her name. Except for the fact that it isn’t very helpful at all and only further confuses people.

But don’t worry, if you were confused by Beck Bennett’s name as well, he has a fun song where he spells his name as “Bec” and sings it alongside Saoirse.

Floribama Shore

The cast of Floribama Shore cast stays at the house during Hurricane Irma and the drama only heats up. Especially when two girls think they’re are enemies but discover they’re sisters. Everyone is sleeping with Mikey Day and then, when one guy decides to tell someone he loves them, a stop sign kills him.

The only one who is actively trying to leave is Jason because he realizes that they’re gonna die in the house. Because you know, it is a hurricane.

American Girl Store

Wow this man really loves his American Girl doll. When an explosion disrupts the customers at an American Girl store, a woman talks about how the man in front of her really was into his doll’s hairstyle. To the point where everyone was worried about his connection to the store and doll.

Obviously the man continues to deny his attachment to the store and to his doll but everyone continually proves that he was there by himself. And as Beck Bennett says, it is okay. Some men just like dolls.

Welcome to Hell

Guys, it seems like everything sucks for you right now. With the threat of your sexual misconduct coming out every day, you must constantly live in fear. Well, as is the message of the girls from Saturday Night Live, welcome to Hell.

This wonderful song is just about how we girls have experienced the fear of existing everyday. The best part? When Kate McKinnon points out that she walks how with her keys in between her fingers to keep herself safe.

Return Counter

Some people just love to return things and Mikey Day has to deal with it. Especially when Deborah comes in and runs her wheelchair into his stand and then Cecily Strong threatens to make him go viral for not returning her Tide pen.

It’s funny because you know all these have happened to the people who work the customer service counter at stores.

The Race

Sometimes a ghost comes to you and inspires you to run fast at work despite the fact that you ripped your pants. Especially if your boss is Greta Gerwig. This sketch is honestly weird but maybe a perfect sketch?

Beck Bennett is the fastest guy in his office but Kyle Mooney wants to run fast too. So Lindsey (Saoirse Ronan) inspires him. Despite the fact that she is a ghost.

U2

If you are a fan of U2 or megaphones, this is going to be the musical guest for you! Honestly, it was fun. U2’s new album sounds pretty good and the two songs they did on the show both featured a megaphone. Was it because Bono loves a megaphone or what?

But still, Bono is too cool for school and gave an amazing performance.

Weekend Update

Theresa May dragged political figures on Twitter. Or, well, she did so politely because she is still British so she has a stiff upper lip. Weekend Update this week pointed out that it is crazy that the president accused a man of murder and it didn’t even register as major news because of everything happening.

Bachelor Auction

Everyone loves Chad. Why? Who knows but these rich women are willing to spend thousands of dollars to try and get a lunch date with him. So much so that the bill ends up being 10 million dollars at the end and a fancy man in a fancy coat takes him.

But then John McEnroe is the next bachelor and no one is offering to buy him. Except for the man in the fancy coat. He buys him for 20 million dollars.

Late for Class

Maybe don’t make this kind of impression on your first day of class. A kid comes in and is rude to everyone and as you can see in the sketch, no one laughed. So rather than being confused about what was going on, the sketch just continued on.

By the end, we realize that he was new to class, wanted to make a splash and it backfired on him. The poor kid made a bad decision and now he’s going to be ridiculed at school. Especially with a name like Brody Chode.

Aer Lingus

This Irish airline comes equipped with dogs, potatoes, and the knowledge of what their airline sounds like. In the eleventh hour sketch, it was just filled with puppies on the runway and trying to get these people to New York City.

It was a great last sketch with everyone trying to do an Irish accent while Saoirse Ronan got to use hers.
