Saturday Night Live season 43 episode 6 review: Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper took over Saturday Night Live this week and we loved it. With musical guest Eminem, this was one episode you didn’t want to miss.

Saturday Night Live this week reminded us that this show can be really good. Chance the Rapper came by as host this time and honestly, it was a joy to watch! With musical guest Eminem, there really wasn’t a dull moment in the episode.

Especially when everyone sang about Barack coming back! We have a sketch by sketch recap of what happened on the episode.

Cold Open

Kate McKinnon is Julian Assange. Do you need anything more? Basically the Trump boys are getting information from Wikileaks but that means that we get the greatest character from Kate McKinnon ever?

Yeah, I said it. This is better than both alien abduction and the actress round table. She gives Donald Trump Jr. the information and Eric is so dense that he doesn’t realize what is happening around him. So much so that he says “live from New York” instead of “live from New York”. Just think about it, you’ll get it.

Monologue

Chance wants to be the Mariah Carey of Thanksgiving. Or basically, he just wants to donate 1 million dollars to Chicago schools but he doesn’t have it. Did he mess up the lyrics at one point? Maybe but do we care? Not really because Chance is absolutely adorable!

Gotham City

Batman needs to cool it. Everyone goes to get gifts from Bruce Wayne and start talking about how they want Bruce to talk to Batman about leaving their neighborhoods. Bruce tries to defend Batman but the crimes he puts people on gargoyles for gets weirder and weirder each time.

Come Back

Miss Boyz II Men? Don’t worry, Chance has you covered. Well, only if you also miss Barack Obama. Much like his sketch “Last Christmas While Barack’s Still Here”, this one featured clips of Barack Obama and this Boyz II Men like group singing “Come Back Barack” to him.

Honestly? It is perfect, catchy, and I challenge someone to not get this song stuck in your head. You’re going to want to step touch your way through the whole thing.

Family Feud Thanksgiving

Steve Harvey has a son with Aidy Bryant that he doesn’t know about. Pretty much that’s the entire sketch. One side is Steve’s family and the other is a family that is partly Steve’s? They’re playing Family Feud and Chance continues to act just like Steve.

We learn that it is his son and that Aidy Bryant met Steve and had him before she met her husband. What a lovely Thanksgiving Family Feud is was! Except for Steve Harvey’s wife.

Eminem

Eminem knows you might not know his songs but that’s fine. He reminded us of some of his past duets that we love. It a weird turn of events, though: he only did one song on the show. Or, well, he technically did three songs but they were all in one performance rather than the typical Saturday Night Live format.

It was a great performance though, especially if you were a fan of Eminem before.

Weekend Update

It’s really hard to come up with other things to say about Weekend Update. It was Weekend Update. That’s pretty much it. There was a nice bit where Pete Davidson complains about Staten Island for a while but other than that it was just the typical Weekend Update that we know and love. Even including Jeff Sessions.

Sports Annoucer

Hockey doesn’t make any sense, and this news reporter doesn’t get it either. When their normal guy is out on paternity leave, they have to get the sports announcer for the Knicks to cover. The problem? He doesn’t know hockey and he’s freezing.

It’s honestly really funny and relatable, if like me, you hate hockey.

Rap History

These young kids just don’t know what it is like to be a rapper. Especially with this group of dudes who were pro-crack and who no other rapper knew. A new rapper comes out saying that he hasn’t listened to rap that came before 2009.

So everyone is complaining about it and trying to educate him while there is a story about the Soul Crush Crew. A rap group that literally no one ever heard of. It’s fun, just a weird sketch with funny costumes.

Career Day

Two boys just want their dads to be cooler than a mom who designs roller coasters. So they end up going a little overboard. Especially when one says that he wants to sleep with his dad. It’s one of those sketches that you don’t know why you’re laughing but you’re sure laughing about it.

Especially when Chance gets so hot that he just has to take his clothes off and stand in the middle of the classroom in just his boxers.

Porn Pizza Delivery

Aidy is back as the little girl who doesn’t know she’s in a porn movie. The pizza delivery guy comes over to give her babysitter a sausage pizza and, from there, it is just sexual innuendo city. Which honestly, is there anything better than that?

Overall, it was a pretty great episode and I’m happy for Chance!
