Wait a second, Justice League: What happened to [discussion]?
By Buckie Wells
Though it’s not unusual to cut scenes, Justice League didn’t answer two of my most burning questions, which I spent the entirety of the film waiting for.
Before Justice League, Suicide Squad very infamously cut several key Joker scenes from the theatrical version. The trailers gave us a lot to look forward to before ultimately leaving us super confused and unhappy with the result.
For the most part, this happens all the time. But the DCEU is slowly becoming infamous for what could be construed as either heavy-handed studio meddling or just poor writing and editing. The reason I mention the former, though, is to point out that Joss Whedon completed the film for Zack Snyder. And as a result, people are already asking what Snyder had originally envisioned for the film.
Apparently, a lot was left on the cutting room floor. From Kiersey Clemons’ role as Iris West to Willem Dafoe’s Atlantean appearance, a lot was cut to make the 2-hour demand. However, there are two scenes from the trailers, in particular, that I desperately wanted to see.
Before we proceed: Sure, there are some spoilers but we’re mostly going to be talking about what isn’t in the film as opposed to what is. So let’s do this.

Who was that Kryptonian? I wanted my wide shot, Justice League. And I’m going to be bitter about it for a long time.
I may or may not have gone to see Justice League just for the very small chance we’d get a Supergirl reference. They didn’t need to mention her by name, or anything. I just wanted a tiny reference to another alien from Krypton, or specifically, another woman to look forward to on the team. Plus, I wanted to see the internet go crazy, so I could say ‘I told you so.’
But, no, Justice League didn’t include this scene at all. We got weirdly sunburnt Bruce Wayne and an awful, unnecessary scene in his skinsuit, but no hologram. Seriously, though. Those are not Clark’s legs.

Who was Alfred freakin’ talking to?
At the end of the Comic-Con trailer, Alfred says, “He said you would come. Now, let’s hope it’s not too late.” Based on how Justice League went, it makes sense he’s talking to Superman. But what if he wasn’t. Most of Alfred’s scenes were forgettable, and this could’ve made him seem like more than just dry quips and the guy who talked too much about dating.
If anything, it would’ve been a better mid or post-credits scene than what we watched. The first one was a longer version of something we’d seen in the movie already. And the second just wasn’t exciting, whether it was meant to pivot the franchise or not.

Of course, I’m not saying that these would’ve been revelatory scenes or anything. I just don’t want to sit here with this shoulda-coulda-woulda movie and a million possibilities. We waited and waited for this movie, defended the DCEU as best as we could, and I got Wonder Woman butt shots where I could’ve had a Supergirl reference.
