Saturday Night Live season 43 episode 2 review: Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman herself took on Saturday Night Live and we have our recap! With musical guest Sam Smith, this week left us in stitches!

This week, Saturday Night Live was pretty fun. Mainly because of Gal Gadot (when they actually used her in a sketch). But overall, the episode was just a couple of some slightly funny sketches and then a great Weekend Update.

Cold Open

Expect to cry at the beginning of Saturday Night Live? Well, you will this week. Jason Aldean, the musician who was performing when the Las Vegas shooting happened, took to the stage to talk about the shooting and perform. With the shooting and Tom Petty’s death on the same day, a lot of America was hurting.

To show the strength of the survivors of the horrific event as well as Americans as a whole, Aldean sang “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty and honestly, it was truly emotional.

Monologue

Were you ready to stop crying? Well, too bad. Gal Gadot, who is from Israel, had a wonderful monologue where, for the first time, the episode was being aired live in Israel. To honor that, Gal spoke in Hebrew to her friends and family there. It was so sweet and if you’re like me and you love Gal, you probably cried.

From there, she met another inspiration Wonder Woman: the Times Square Wonder Woman! Leslie Jones came out and the two talked about the inspirational power of Diana Prince!

E!’s Fall Line-Up

Kendall Jenner has a lot of TV shows. So many that she is constantly on E! and lost in her closet. Basically it is just about the line up of Kardashian inspired shows coming this fall. It’s fine and not that funny, just a filler piece to fill the ‘after monologue and between commercials’ slot.

OJ Goes on a Date

Honestly, at first I thought this was going to be rough. I was so worried about the kind of show that Gal Gadot was going to give us and I’m so glad that I was surprised. Basically, they’re on a Bumble date and the service is bad. Seems fine and weird until you find out who she’s on the date with.

Oh, sorry, in case you didn’t know, it is OJ Simpson and she doesn’t know who he is.

The Chosen One

Pete Davidson has to save the world and he’s just fine with it. It is fine. It’s just one of those short digital sketches where you say “okay sure” about it and forget it exists. Nothing particularly great about it.

It’s basically Narnia and Chad has to save their world and then he gets to sleep with the Queen. But he’s childish and dumb and that’s pretty much it.

Lemonade Mariage

In a sketch that is funny despite it confirming my fear that they’d focus on the fact that Gal Gadot is hot, two men just end up imagining things in the desert. Kenan sees Gal making him a lemonade. Beck sees the guys from his Jamba Juice by his old job.

The whole sketch is about how Gal is hot and that’s it.

Safelite

A man who works at Safelite likes a kid and keeps breaking a mom’s window shield to ask her about her basketball games. Honestly, it is creepy and funny because Beck Bennett is just hands down the weird one and everyone shuns him.

Sam Smith

If you like Sam Smith, you’ll like his performance. If you’re indifferent to him, you’ll also like it because it was just a good set. He did two of his new songs and they were pretty amazing. It is nice to have more Sam Smith music in our lives and honestly, his outfits were insane but his music is beauty to our ears.

Weekend Update

Between Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Pete Davidson talking about mental health issues, this was an amazing Weekend Update. Obviously they tackled the shooting this week and a few other topics but really, the best parts were RBG and Pete.

Storybook Classics

A princess needs a dress and her mice may not be the best option for it. Or more than that, she is too nice to really say that it is ugly. And because of that her prince ends up asking a mouse to go to the ball with him instead. It is crazy, weird, and yet still a little funny!

Sexy Chat Now

Police officers are trying to deal with a terrorist and they keep getting their stream intercepted by two women in a chat trying to make money. In the end, the police end up sending the women forty million dollars instead of to the terrorist and honestly, it is just dumb fun. It isn’t the best sketch in the world but it is still pretty funny.

Wonder Woman

Themyscira is filled with just strong women who don’t know whether or not they’re lesbians. Or rather Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant are lesbians who crash onto Paradise Island and want to make out with Wonder Woman.

And honestly though, who doesn’t want to make out with Wonder Woman?

Naomi

Naomi is a talk show host who helps troubled teens. When AJ comes onto the show, she finds a father in Kenan. And they want him to adopt her. It ends up bad for the man who comes on to ‘whip AJ into shape’ and everyone just goes along with it. Except for him.

It was a fun little last sketch of the night and gave us Gal Gadot in a blonde wig so what’s not to love?

Overall? Gal Gadot should have been used more. It was an episode about her and she was in maybe four sketches. But what she was in was pretty good and so I’m personally very happy with it!
