Poldark season 4 starts filming, and Americans just sigh and pout a little

It’s hard to get excited about Poldark season 4 starting production when American fans still have to wait a month to see season 3.

Look, yours truly made her displeasure known about PBS not airing Poldark season 3 until Oct. 1 known back when that was first announced. It seemed like a bad idea then, and it still seems like a bad idea, now that we’re finally fewer than 30 days away from seeing Eleanor Tomlinson and Aidan Turner again, and hearing that wonderful theme music, and gasping over whatever ridiculous development has happened this week.

At this point, this is just adding insult to injury, because Poldark‘s fourth season, which we also already knew about, has now started its own production in Cornwall! Even the photo that the BBC posted as part of its announcement tweet is sort of a spoiler to Americans who still haven’t seen season 3 and haven’t read the books or otherwise have knowledge of what’s coming!

It is cute, though, so spoilers:

If you really don’t want to have some vague ideas of what happens in season 3, don’t read the BBC’s accompanying article, either, although the season 4 synopsis is pretty light on super-spoilery details other than that it’ll move things forward to 1796, mostly because some of the characters mentioned haven’t even made their debuts on PBS yet.

No, we are not bitter about this at all. Why do you ask?

On this side of the pond, PBS’ Masterpiece is just going along, hyping up season 3 with a lovely photo of Ross looking as handsome as ever astride a horse:

That horse is very sneakily sticking its tongue out, and we can appreciate the humor of it.

But not even Turner’s pretty face can cut through the sadness at having to wait several extra months.

PBS’ pressroom has also put together a season 3 synopsis for us:

"“Season 3 finds Ross and Demelza attempting to repair their relationship, while George Warleggan builds his empire to crush the Poldarks. Elizabeth harbors a dangerous secret, and Dwight is captured during the war with France. Will Ross risk everything to save his friend?”"

As this is Ross we’re talking about, the answer to the question is probably “yes,” even before you see the very-much-a-spoiler episode 2 synopsis on that page.
