How to watch Game of Thrones on HBO Go/Now

By giving its online and on-the-go service a fancy moniker, HBO made it seem like there’s a trick to watch Game of Thrones on HBO Go/Now, but there’s not.

To many traditional TV watchers, HBO’s just the movie channel. As a premium channel, more people may know it as the explicit channel where nearly every show features some sort of nudity. Nowadays, it’s evolved from the home of Sex and the City to one of the best streaming services around that serves us glorious content like Game of Thrones, Westworld, Big Little Lies, Curb Your Enthusiasm or Last Week Tonight.

But what’s the deal with HBO Go, you ask?

Nothing, really. It’s just the special name that HBO gives to its complimentary streaming component. Moreover, it’s generally included for anyone who subscribes to HBO through their cable subscription anyway. Instead of saying “available to watch on-the-go with the HBO app” like every other network, HBO says to watch HBO Go. Whereas, HBO Now is a standalone service. You can watch HBO through HBO Now without paying for 100 other channels.

With the only differentiating feature being how you subscribe, people often use them interchangeably. Of course, that makes all the sense in the world since they’re available on nearly all the same devices. Both HBO Go and HBO Now are meant to be portable. As HBO puts it, “HBO Go. It’s HBO. Anywhere.” What good’s a slogan if it barely rhymes?

So, to watch Game of Thrones on HBO Go or HBO Now, you can access the app through your smartphone or visit their respective sites in your browser. Again, they’re both going to have the same content. More importantly, you’ll be able to watch live without a problem.
