British actor and author Stephen Fry is narrating a new series of Sherlock Holmes audiobooks.

Author and comedian Stephen Fry is talking his amazing narration skills to one of the most-beloved detective series of all time: Sherlock Holmes.

Audible.com has the exclusive audiobook containing several of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels and short stories. The collection starts with the first Holmes story, A Study in Scarlet, which was published 130 years ago this year.

The collection includes four Holmes novels and four short stories, plus personal introductions from Fry, a long-time Holmes mega-fan. Fry said to Audible:

"“I think it was reading the Sherlock Holmes stories as a boy that first turned me on to the power of writing and storytelling. I felt myself inside the world of Baker Street, sitting alongside Holmes and Watson in their snug quarters, listening to a new case being told them by a new client. Now to be able to read those stories again, but this time out loud, is giving me more pleasure than ought to be allowed. A job of work really shouldn’t be so delightful.”"

The Holmes stories included in the collection are A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, The Valley of Fear and His Last Bow.

It’s a comprehensive collection that would be a good starting point for those new to Conan Doyle’s stories (perhaps fans of BBC’s Sherlock who want to dive into the books) or regular fans who want to hear Fry’s unique take on the stories.

Fry has already become a popular audiobook choice, mostly thanks to his work on the UK audiobooks for Harry Potter. His animated reading style made the audiobooks a hit for fans on both sides of the pond (no offense to US narrator Jim Dale). Fry also narrated the audiobook forThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and did the voiceover in the 2005 film version as well.
