Oscars 2017: The After Parties Guide

It’s the night of nights. Everyone in the entertainment industry and fans worldwide will tune in on Sunday, February 26 for the 89th Academy Awards, waiting to see the star studded red carpet and who takes home what awards – the highest honor in the industry, after all.

But the night doesn’t end after Best Picture is awarded – far from it.

We’ve compiled the list of the top Oscar after parties, where anyone who is anyone will make an appearance (and maybe debut a second glitzy outfit).

Norby Walters’ Annual Night of 100 Stars

at the Beverly Hilton Hotel

If you haven’t heard of the Night of 100 Stars, don’t worry – you’re not alone. In fact, The New York Times called the annual post-Oscar pow-wow “The Oscar Party No One Knows” last year. And yet, plenty of celebrities – give or take 100 – find themselves venturing to Norby Walters’ get together. The Brooklyn native knows his party isn’t, say, the famed Vanity Fair party – but nonetheless, it’s been a spot for Bryan Cranston, Jason Alexander, Judd Nelson and many more over the years.

It is not, however, an Oscar party, per se – according to his chat with the New York Times.

"“It’s my party, that’s all it is,” he said. “It has nothing to do with the stars, it has nothing to do with the Oscars.”It’s just: “That’s the night that everybody’s hot to go out.”"

Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills

The Vanity Fair party, some might argue, is the party. Since it’s first debut in 1994 (having evolved from the previous “Swifty’s” party – full history at Vanity Fair), it’s become the party for the biggest name celebrities to attend – given that they received an invite. Leonardo Dicaprio walked around proudly with his Oscar (finally!) in hand last year, Monica Lewinsky stole the spotlight in 1999, and Ellen Degeneres and Anne Heche fell in love in 1997.

Like we said – it’s the party, and anything can (and will) happen.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 25th Annual Oscar Viewing Party

West Hollywood Park

I mean, come on, who wouldn’t trust Elton John to throw an A+ party, am I right? For 25 years now, the Elton John AIDS Foundation has been hosting an Oscar viewing and after party in Los Angeles that has attracted big names like Tim Allen, Naomi Campbell, Jim Carrey, Samuel L. Jackson, Neil Patrick Harris, Nicole Kidman and more. Not to mention, Chef Gordon Ramsey has taken care of the food for the past few years – big step up from any munchies you serve at your parties.

The 89th Oscars Governors Ball

Ray Dolby Ballroom

Last but far from least is the official after party of the Academy itself – the annual Governors Ball. 1,500 esteemed guests are invited, immediately following the end of the awards ceremony, to dine on Master Chef Wolfgang Puck’s food and enjoy this year’s theme of “Magical Transformations,” according to the official Oscars’ website.

“The theme of this year’s Governors Ball is ‘magical transformation.’  As they enter the Ball, guests will transition from a dazzling sea of red to a tricolor motif of eye-popping gold and red on an infinite blanket of white,” said Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland.  “The unique design of the space has been meticulously created to celebrate Oscar gold.”
