How to Get Away with Murder Season 3, Episode 13 Recap: Tears, Tears, Tears

On this week’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder, the twists and turns pile up, and there’re multiple dramatic exits.

How to Get Away with Murder kicks off by reminding us of all the developments in last week’s busy episode, including Wes’ missing body. But then we open on none other than a newly-released-on-bail Annalise Keating (with a new wig), looking at the burned-out shell of her house. She then meets Nate at an underpass.

He informs her that he was at her house that night, and we head into the realm of the flashback, where they have an argument about Annalise and Wes’ loyalty to her.

"Wes: “I’ve done awful things to her.”"

Nate’s phone rings, and he lies to the detectives about where Wes is. After that, though, it seems he left. Both he and Annalise get teary, and it looks like Nate has some guilt. She says she’ll fix it, and we get our title card.

Meanwhile, Asher, Connor, Michaela, Laurel and Oliver continue to wrestle with the weight of Wes’ unsolved murder, and Nate makes a shocking discovery on, “How to Get Away with Murder,” THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network. At Bonnie’s, Annalise has a meeting with the Keating Four and Bonnie. Laurel insists they need to track down Wes’ killers, accuses Annalise of acting the victim, and then walks right out. (So no, Laurel is not okay. Question answered.) After the meeting and back at his place, Oliver refuses to hack Annalise’s phone data.

Then Connor brings up Wes.

That’s enough.

Lawyer (and Investigator) Stuff

Meanwhile, Bonnie and Frank have a meeting. He insists Wes was not at the house when he got there. She doesn’t seem to believe him.

Laurel prepares a file about Charles Mahoney and meets with private investigator. Meanwhile, Annalise writes a letter to the attorney general accusing ADA Atwood of misconduct. She and the AG square off.

"Annalise: “Find that body!”"

Bonnie meets with DA Denver and ADA Atwood. Turns out that the DA has a file on everyone, and he pretty clearly implies it will all come out if this continues. While Connor and Asher squabble over the possibility of an immunity deal, Michaela gets a call from Annalise.

The two of them sit in a car, and here’s what Annalise wants: information on who’s wobbling. Michaela, quite resentful, says that no one is.

Call Me a Joke One More Time

At the AG’s office, Nate claims that his signature on the body transfer is forged, and he then places an angry call to Annalise, because now he’s caught up in that investigation, too.

"Nate: “They think you’re a joke now!”"

Her attempts to smooth things over do not work well.

While Oliver digs into Annalise’s files, she arrives herself. She has a job for him: putting an article in the paper about a possible conspiracy surrounding the loss of Wes’ body. Atwood and Denver see it.

Michaela and Asher pay Laurel a visit with cookies, and they both see the private investigator. Turns out that there was a DNA test on Wes by the Mahoneys, and his parentage killed him … at least that’s what Laurel thinks.

Annalise talks with Hargrove on the phone. So far, she isn’t fired, or Hargrove won’t admit it.

Don’t Slam the Door! Don’t Slam the Door!

During the second meeting of the episode, Laurel presents her evidence about the Mahoneys and the DNA test. Annalise, in her anger, mentions the death of her child to prove the danger involved with investigating this.

"Laurel: “Wes deserves so much better than you.”"

With that line, she completes her second dramatic walkout of the episode. Still sure she’s not wobbling, Michaela?

In the bathroom, Annalise swipes some pills from Bonnie, but we don’t see her take them. When she walks out, Asher apologizes for Laurel and, in his own way, expresses his condolences.

That night, he then proceeds to make a case for Connor betraying them already to Michaela, who has absolutely none of it. Speaking of Connor, he doesn’t seem to believe Annalise’s story, and then he finds out she paid a visit to Oliver. Bonnie then visits Laurel, and offers to “make an appointment.”

It doesn’t go well.

Still More Lawyer Stuff

That night, Annalise gets a call from prison. It’s Frank, looking for Bonnie. He ends up offering his services to her once again. She hangs up. Her next call comes from the AG, who did not take kindly to the leak.

And by “didn’t take kindly,” we mean “she’ll tell DA Denver to seek the death penalty if there’s more shenanigans.” After staring at the pill bottle again, Annalise heads out to meet with Hargrove instead. She asks what Atwood offered … and yes, Hargrove has officially gone to team Atwood.

Bonnie and Annalise have a brief conversation that leads to Bonnie meeting with Frank. We see none of their chat.

We do, however, cut to the courtroom, where Frank files a subpoena to try and get Atwood’s files to track the body down. He brings out the transfer order, drops Nate and Atwood’s relationship, calls up the Sixth Amendment and insists he’s not getting a fair trial.

The judge grants the subpoena.

Back and Forth, Back and Forth

Denver finally lectures Atwood and demands her records ahead of time. That night, Nate and Annalise have a meeting, and he says that Atwood has admitted to moving the body. Her next visit is to Laurel, who immediately starts in with the snark. Annalise then says Wes was cremated.

In the breakdown at Bonnie’s, Asher doesn’t understand why the cremation is a bad thing, and then accuses Connor of being the police’s informant.

Laurel breaks down in her demand for action and basically says Annalise’s emotions about Wes are fake.

Connor, meanwhile, makes his case for Annalise and points out that the copy of the phone data exists.

Both Annalise and Laurel end up crying, and it seems that the rift has been mended, at least for now.

When Connor gets back to Oliver’s, it turns out that yeah, Connor went to Annalise’s house on that night. Why? Well, we don’t know yet.

We flashback to see Connor trying to revive a pretty-clearly dead Wes, though.
