The Duffer Brothers Say Stranger Things Chapter Titles Will Likely Change

Because people on the internet are so smart and speculative, the Duffer Brothers may change chapters titles of Stranger Things season 2.

When the first teaser for Stranger Things season 2 dropped, it gave us both a lot and a little. It didn’t show any new footage (which we’ve since seen in the actual Super Bowl teaser). But it did give us a list of all the chapter titles we can expect in season 2.

For reference, season 1 featured these episode titles:

  • Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers
  • Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street
  • Chapter Three: Holly, Jolly
  • Chapter Four: The Body
  • Chapter Five: The Flea and the Acrobat
  • Chapter Six: The Monster
  • Chapter Seven: The Bathtub
  • Chapter Eight: The Upside Down

Obviously, in hindsight, we can see how telling each chapter title really was. For example, “Holly, Jolly” was the episode in which Joyce figured out how to communicate with Will using the Christmas lights.

With this in mind, we can also assume that the chapter titles for the next season hold a lot of secrets, too.

  • “Madmax”
  • “The Boy Who Came Back to Life”
  • “The Pumpkin Patch”
  • “The Palace”
  • “The Storm”
  • “The Pollywog”
  • “The Secret Cabin”
  • “The Brain”
  • “The Lost Brother”

Immediately, I want to guess that the Will we saw in the season finale wasn’t really Will at all. By the time the final episode of season 2 rolls around (“The Lost Brother”), we’ll see the real Will fight his way out of the Upside Down. I mean, does this look like the face of somebody who feels totally normal and at ease?

Also, do we think this occurs before or after the boys visit said “Pumpkin Patch” of episode 3?

I’m going to say after pumpkin carving, but before intense tricking and treating because those pillow cases look weak.

But, of course, that’s just speculation. Which is the No. 1 currency on the internet and why co-creator Matt Duffer told Entertainment Weekly that these title may end up changing: “Some of them we didn’t put because these people are smart on the f—ing internet. You’ve seen it with Westworld — they figured it out! I’ve seen videos analyzing the chapter titles and they’re right on a lot.”

Likewise, Ross Duffer says they already know “everything major that was going to happen moving into season 2.” So outside of those major plot points. Everything is free game.
