Ryan Murphy’s Feud Finally Has a First Look at its Joan Crawford and Bette Davis
Ryan Murphy’s new drama series, Feud, finally has an image of the subjects of its first season: Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
Ryan Murphy appears to have found his creative home on FX. American Horror Story will continue through 2019 at the very least; American Crime Story has plans for seasons both on Hurricane Katrina and the murder of Gianni Versace. Then there’s Feud. Announced last year, Feud makes for a third anthology series on FX. Naturally, since this is Murphy we’re talking about, he also announced that it would start with the rivalry between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. After that announcement, though, things went quiet.
Apparently, things won’t be quiet for much longer. Entertainment Weekly today posted the very first picture of Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon in character as Crawford and Davis, respectively. Check it out below:
We must admit that Lange has the eyebrows down, and Sarandon has Davis’ hairstyle nailed as well. For comparison, here’s the two of them:
Anyway, as EW reports, the series focuses on the first film the two ever starred in together: What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? At the time, the two were both in their fifties and long past their prime, at least by Hollywood’s standards. (The above photo is from that time period. We also note that they’re separated by Jack Warner.) One imagines that the hate of Baby Jane Hudson for her sister Blanche didn’t require much work on Davis’ part.
EW quotes Murphy as saying that he wanted to explore the ideas of “sexism, ageism, misogyny” in Feud: Bette and Joan. That makes us think that the series will tend more towards ACS than to its horrifying cousin. Not that we didn’t love Roanoke, but there were many things that did not make sense.

Unfortunately, no release date for Feud: Bette and Joan was given. However, we suspect that it’ll come out this year to make up for ACS not returning until 2018.
