“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD:” What Is May’s LMD After?

With life model decoys leading the charge in “Agents of SHIELD,” we’re neck deep in killer robots. What is May’s LMD really after?

A lot happened in this week’s Agents of SHIELD episode as we switched to a new subtitle for the season. Sometimes when SHIELD tries to overload an episode with too many plot points, it feels like a jumbled mess.

But this week’s episode, “Broken Promises,” merges it all together pretty nicely. And it puts a lot of pieces in motion and gives us our true new “big bad” for the back half of the season. Spoilers and theories ahead!

Broken Promises” gave us Aida’s death, reveal of another Aida, LMD!May bonding with Coulson, and the twist that Dr. Radcliffe is behind it all. Even the LMD of Agent May. What does he want? The Darkhold, as it holds the key to immortality (of sorts).

The original Aida made a comment about LMD!May’s mission, but she made it sound like it wasn’t just going after the Darkhold. What else might Radcliffe be after with May?

Agent Coulson

Project TAHITI is very much locked down. And yet it’s also very well known that Coulson somehow came back from the dead. Radcliffe is all about enhancing and extending human life; is it so much of a stretch that he might be after any information on TAHITI?

Who else would Coulson confide in than one of his longest cohorts? If LMD!May gets close enough with him, he would certainly open up to her. They’ve been through enough. He wouldn’t think anything of it–just like he let her know where the Darkhold was hidden.

SHIELD Technology Secrets

There’s so much of SHIELD our cohorts have yet to unearth, so much the movies have touched and the show has not. You’re talking a decades-old secret organization that also has ties to the Avengers. They have a sketchy past and probably have loads of files hidden away.

What can’t you find?

Plus, with the whole color-coded access that Director Mace created, who knows how high a clearance level Radcliffe has. He may need someone higher up than him to get access to what he wants.

It’s not just what Fitz created; it’s everything.

Chaos and Mistrust

This one seems the best option.

You know as soon as it’s discovered that May is actually an LMD, there’s going to be an uproar. Everyone on our SHIELD team is going to start pointing fingers at everyone else, claiming they’re a life model decoy. How can you tell? Must you cut off their head like Mack did to Aida?

That will get gruesome pretty quickly.

It will also create enough of a distraction for Radcliffe to sneak around and do whatever he wants/get whatever he needs. A smokescreen, if you will.

We’re only one episode into the back half of Agents of SHIELD, and the possibilities are endless. Everything is still murky enough to lend credence to any theory, really. Let’s see where next week’s episode takes us and how many more killer robots join the fray.
