AMC Theatres is honoring actor Gene Wilder, who recently died from complications of Alzheimer’s, by showing two of his most popular movies in 55 of their locations on a total of 100 screens. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be shown at 5:00 p.m. followed by Blazing Saddles at 7:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Price of admission is just $5 for each movie.

Sure, you can buy these movies on DVD or through Amazon or iTunes, but it’s just not the same. For fans who weren’t alive or old enough to see Wilder’s movies in theaters the first-time around, this is a great opportunity to experience them the way they were meant to be. It gives fans of all ages a chance to connect with other fans and celebrate Wilder’s work while also mourning the beloved actor’s passing.

Earlier this year, AMC honored the legendary artist Prince with a special presentation of Purple Rain after his death in April. After showing the movie in just 87 theaters, AMC made the decision to expand to an additional weekend and more theaters.
