Even though June is Pride Month, there is no way I wasn’t going to show some love to Winging It With You by Chip Pons. While some might recognize him from Bookstagram, he’s an author I’ve previously read from and enjoyed.
If you didn’t know, Pons originally released You & I, Rewritten in 2022. It was self-published and is still on Kindle Unlimited. Basically, I’m saying you should add both of these to your TBR if you’re not catching my drift.
Anyway, when I saw that he was releasing a book with G.P. Putnam’s & Sons, it immediately jumped onto my TBR. Plus, as mentioned, it is Pride Month, so this book was going to get read either way.
With that being said, I’d like to thank the publisher for sending me an ARC, so I was able to read this one early. I’ve been dying to talk about it as well, so let’s not delay things any further.
Winging It With You is the traveling romance you’ve been waiting for.
Winging It With You begins with Asher, excited about going on the reality show The Epic Trek with his boyfriend. However, once the two get to the airport, Asher gets dumped and is basically stuck. From there, he plans to come clean until he meets Theo. Theo is an overworked pilot who needs to take a vacation and what better way to do that than join Asher? At first, it seems like an absolutely bonkers idea.
Regardless, Asher and Theo decide to team up and play lovebirds for The Epic Trek. Even though it seems like a challenge, the two quickly realize that they're attracted to each other and from there, it's a race to see who can crack first. Honestly, there were so many great moments in Winging It with You aside from the romance.
Chip Pons did such a great job of setting up the game, showing the different challenges and making us fall in love with all the different teams. However, the thing I can truly applaud him for was the third-act-conflict. Personally, I never saw that coming and seeing how it played out was both heartbreaking and incredibly realistic. There is truly something unmatched about all these different destinations and seeing how Theo and Asher handle the game together.
While this one will likely be on many Pride Month lists, this is one you'll want to gobble up throughout the summer. There's romance, travel and plenty of hilarious moments you won't be able to get enough of. I can hope that we get more from Chip Pons in the future because his books are every bit as funny as they are swoony.
Winging It with You by Chip Pons is out now where books are sold.
