Video game news this week was dominated by the Nintendo Switch 2. And rightly so. It's a big development, and we'll touch on a couple of points here, so let's dive in!
Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2
Yes, everyone was holding their breath for 9am EST on April 2nd to hear more about the Nintendo Switch 2. We've gone so long between new Nintendo consoles and there have been so many rumors that it was a welcome relief to watch the hour-long presentation.
We covered it earlier this week with the list of our six favorite announcements from the presentation, but there's so much more to it than just those six things.
Which leads to the next point of coverage...
Hands-on reviews of the Nintendo Switch 2
Now that the Nintendo Direct is done, the embargos have been lifted and a lot of outlets have gotten their hands on the Switch 2. Most outlets are fairly impressed with the improvements that have been made for this next console. It's nothing mind-blowing, but the Switch was already pretty darn good, albeit underpowered (and old).
If you want to take a deeper dive, IGN has a good read and Game Informer has one, too. There's also been a bit of a deeper dive into some of the new Switch 2 games, including Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World in a Nintendo Treehouse: Live. Not mentioned: the entire chat for the entire presentation telling Nintendo to drop the prices.
Delay to the Switch 2 preorders
Okay, last point about the Nintendo Switch 2 and then we can move on. It came out earlier today that Nintendo has delayed the preorder dates for the Switch 2 from next Wednesday, April 9 to TBD due to the tariffs levied by Trump. However, the launch date is still June 5.
And unfortunately, it won't just be the Nintendo Switch 2 that's affected in the video game industry, so brace yourselves for a bumpy ride.
Ghost of Yōtei gets more story details
The official page for Ghost of Yōtei on PlayStation's website now has the below description for the story of this hotly-anticipated sequel:
"300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, a new warrior – Atsu – rises from the ashes of her homestead.Ghost of Yōtei's PlayStation page
Filled with fury and determination, Atsu will hunt down those responsible for the death of her family and exact her revenge. Every odd job and bounty will provide the coin she needs for her journey. But how she fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost, will be up to you."
The details we didn't know are that Atsu's hunting down the people who killed her family and it also sounds like there may also be a bounty hunting mechanic as well. That's just speculation, and we'll have to wait and see. They're still sticking to a 2025 release date!
