Video game news is scattered across the board this week. We've got some newly revealed games, some newly leaked screenshots, some new trailers, and another game delay.
Let's jump in!
Star Wars Zero Company
We've always got our ears open for new Star Wars games, and Star Wars Zero Company piqued our interest. All we know so far is that it's a single player turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment (the studio behind the Jedi games).
We'll get more details at Star Wars Celebration in Japan on Saturday, April 19, so if we don't cover it in this week's round-up, we'll get it in next week's!
Dune: Awakening Delayed
It wouldn't be a round-up if we didn't have some sort of delay for a video game. This week, it's Dune Awakening, delayed from May 20 to June 10, but we will get a beta weekend sometime in May to ease the pain.
The delay comes from player feedback that Funcom received from a closed beta that they're taking to heart before release. Honestly that sounds like good news to me, and hopefully it improves the game for the better before the wider audience gets their hands on it.
MOUSE P.I. For Hire weapons trailer
We've had our eye on this one since its reveal trailer, as it's the perfect campy throwback to 1930s cartoons with a flair of Mickey Mouse and also a bit of the Cuphead vibes.
Now we've got a trailer for the ridiculous weapons you'll be utilizing while playing, including the COOL-D Cold Steam Applier (an ice weapon), the CLEAN-D Automatic Turpentine Cleanse (a chemical weapon), and the MIND-D Self-Aware Attitude Changer (one that explodes brains).
Baldur's Gate 3 final patch release
It's the last patch that will introduce new content (new narrative content, any updated storylines, more subclasses), and Larian Studios' blog post for it is very nice and has some heartfelt thank yous to players.
This final big patch includes crossplay, Xbox Series S split screen, and photo mode, so it's nothing to scoff at. Larian has put plenty into Baldur's Gate 3 and it shows. The game has continued to be ironed out and improved upon since its release in 2023 and it shows.
Yes, there was a GoldenEye 007 remaster
And to no one's surprise, Nintendo quashed it before even giving it a chance. The N64 game is an absolute classic but its dated graphics, controls, and gameplay make it so difficult to pick up and play nearly thirty years later.
In an interview with Video Game Chronicle, Stephen Kick, the head of Nightdive Studios, said that they had the MGM/Eon side on board with their "dream team" for it and Nintendo basically said they'd never license out a Nintendo game to a third party. Which is a bummer because Nightdive has done such wonders with remasters of old school classics like Turok and Doom 64
The Mario Kart World Direct
The anticipated Direct for Mario Kart World aired on Thursday morning, and while it gave us a deeper dive into the game, it didn't really give us much that we couldn't have figured out from the original trailer in the Switch 2 Direct from a few weeks ago.
The game has the modes you know and love (Grand Prix, VS, time trials, and battle) but gives us two new ones: Knockout Tour, where you have to make checkpoints and be higher than the position listed on it or you're out, and Free Roam, where you can roam around the worlds at your leisure and hit P-switches that give you little side missions. There's also collectibles to find, and I'm sure plenty of other things they haven't wanted to divulge just yet.
You can watch the 15-minute presentation below.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered screenshot leaks
This feels like the worst-kept secret now that the Switch 2 has been revealed, but earlier this week, that Oblivion remaster/remake that's been heavily rumored to release soon had some screenshots leaked on the developer's website and the rumor is that it will be announced and released next week. We are prepped and ready to play the crap out of Oblivion again.
Gameplay trailer for Cronos: The New Dawn
Developer Bloober Games did an incredible job with the Silent Hill 2 remake, and they gave us a look at the gameplay for their upcoming game, Cronos: The New Dawn. It looks like a slower version of Returnal, which is an absolute compliment, and the vibes are absolutely on point.
