One thing you’ve likely noticed about The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond is her red hair. The Food Network star is known for her stunning locks, but she reveals that she had to work hard to obtain her look. Here’s what Drummond said about how she “healed” her hair.
Is Ree Drummond a natural redhead?
Drummond shared with her social media followers that her hair is naturally red. However, she also confessed that she dyes her hair to balance the color and add to its richness. Back in 2023, Drummond told her fans that she had to get her hair dyed at the salon because her strands were fading to a yellow/orange color.
In The Pioneer Woman Magazine, Drummond says she maintains her red locks by using Aveda’s Color Conserve shampoo and conditioner. This stops the color from fading.
Ree Drummond’s hair journey
Drummond says her hair was never an issue when she was younger. She shared a photo on The Pioneer Woman website showing how long and thick her red tresses were. The TV star says as she got older, she noticed her hair was started to get “drier” and “frizzy.” She also noticed that her hair was losing thickness.
Drummond says when she looked at a 2012 picture of herself, she noticed how much her hair had changed. Two years later, her hair continued to get thin.
“It was clearly breaking and/or falling out, and wasn't growing back very robustly,” The Pioneer Woman star says in an article on her website. “And by about 2014 (two years later) it had really become clear that my hair was but a shadow of its former self.”
At that point, Drummond decided to try hair extensions. Unfortunately, she says the hair extensions made the condition of her real hair worse. Drummond describes a “vicious cycle” where she had to add extensions to get more volume while the health of her real hair deteriorated.
How Ree Drummond ‘healed’ her hair
Drummond says she began taking vitamin D supplements during the COVID-19 pandemic to stay healthy. She was also starting her weight-loss journey and began eating more protein. In addition, Drummond chose to use a darker hair color instead of constantly lightening it. Since lighter colors tend to strip the hair, this was a game-changer for her.
Over time, Drummond noticed her hair was starting to improve. She says she still wore extensions, but now she didn’t have to wear as many of them. The TV host reports that she doesn’t wear extensions at all now. Her hair is fully healed, thanks to changes in her diet and haircare routine.
