What's new this August 2024 for PlayStation Plus members
PlayStation Plus Essential tier members have had a very middling bout of offerings almost every month this year. And unfortunately, I don't have great news for you for August, but if you have kids, they'll probably be excited!
Here are your free games for the month of August:
- LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
- Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach
- Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights
First up is yet another LEGO game, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. This is a massive game because it pulls from all nine movies, so there is plenty to do, especially if you're a huge Star Wars nerd.
There are dozens of playable, unlockable characters in this game and plenty of ways to get around the galaxy. There's enough variation in the levels that you won't get bored easily, and your younger gamers will have the time of their lives.
Up next is Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. This is the latest installment in the FNAF series, which puts you in the shoes of a young kid stuck overnight in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex. The fun twist is that Freddy is actually helping you this time, but all the other animatronics have been reimagined. It's about as "family-friendly" as a horror game can be and does have some good scares.
Last up is Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, which is a dark fantasy 2D RPG. The combat feels a little reminiscent of Hollow Knight, which will sate fans craving Silksong (if it ever sees the light of day), but gives you some more variation. And the music will give you NieR: Automata vibes, too.
The game is chock full of secrets, mythology, and a solid story as you try to unravel the mysteries of a destroyed kingdom. There are plenty of new abilities to unlock throughout the game. It doesn't do anything to really distinguish itself or reimagine the Metroidvania genre, but games don't always need to. If you're in the mood for a Metroidvania game, this one will sate your appetite.
Your August games are available to download from August 6 until September 2.
