A significant chunk of Taylor Swift's extensive music catalog has returned to TikTok after a tenth-month legal dispute with the company Universal Music Group and the platform. There couldn't be happier news for content creators who enjoy making Swiftie edits.

Per Variety, as of Thursday, April 11th, UMG and TikTok settled their dispute, which began in early February, after both companies failed to negotiate contract renewal on January 31st. Some of Swift's most recognizable songs, including "You Belong With Me," "Cruel Summer," "Fearless," and others, have found their way back on TikTok.

In perspective, the return of Swift couldn't have come at a better time. Her tenth studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, is dropping on Friday, April 19th, and marketing-wise, TikTok's updated song catalog is a smart move to boost the hype for the album. Swift composed the tracks and recorded the music when she was doing her "Eras" tour in 2023, and dedicating her love towards her fans.

It's also very likely that Swift might have played a vital part in getting her music back on the platform as she holds primary ownership of her creative work and has been signed to UMG's publishing division since 2020. UMG for their part distributes and licenses the songs.
