Promises and Pomegranates is a dark romance delight by Sav R. Miller
Sourcebooks have become the frontrunner in allowing more indie authors to get in front of readers. That’s why I was so excited to pick up Promises and Pomegranates by Sav R. Miller.
The Monsters & Muses series is one I’ve heard about for the longest and have been wanting to read so this was a match made in heaven. Plus it’s loosely based on Hades & Peresphones which is something I’ll always check out.
Additionally, this is an incredibly hyped romance series and sometimes, you just have to buy into the hype. Plus Sav R. Miller is besties with Emily McIntire and I’ve loved every book of hers I’ve read so I knew this one was going to be a hit.
With that being said, I’d like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for putting this one on my radar.
Promises and Pomegranates is a delicious dark romance.
Let me start by saying that if you don’t enjoy dark romance, then Promises and Pomegranates is not the book for you. While you can find the full list of content notes on the author’s website, I wanted to share a few. Some of the things you’ll see on-page in this book are murder, grooming, torture, and violence. If those are topics you can handle, then feel free to proceed.
The story follows Elena who is the daughter of a mob boss and is planning to get married off to help her family. Things don’t go exactly to plan as Elena’s wedding ends up getting interrupted by Kal and it quickly becomes a forced marriage for Elena. Not only does she dislike Kal but she also lost her virginity to him.
We find out very quickly that this marriage has to work in order to help both Elena and Kal but that doesn’t mean the two will take things sitting down. Elena is trying to get to know her husband and find out more about him while Kal is trying to stay away because he’s frankly too attracted to her.
As you might imagine, Sav R. Miller writes about such delicious tension and chemistry between these two, making their romance practically light your Kindle on fire. Seeing these two slowly learn about each other and fall in love is delightful. That’s not to say that this book isn’t without its dark and intense moments, though.
Elena is dealing with some family issues and trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life after dropping out of school. Meanwhile, Kal is trying to get away from the mob and possibly go back to being a doctor. Then we have the forces trying to keep them apart including Elena’s mother which is a storyline that I never saw coming. All I can say is that your jaw will be on the floor with that one.
Even so, Sav R. Miller made this book so compulsively readable that I ended up reading Promises and Pomegranates in one sitting. It was exactly the romance I needed when I picked it up and I can’t remember the last romance I’ve devoured like this one. If you’re looking for a fun and fast read, then you need to pick up Promises and Pomegranates.
Promises and Pomegranates by Sav R. Miller is out now where books are sold.
