A Twilight Saga animated series is in the works by Lionsgate Television
The Twilight Saga film franchise will be getting an animated series created by the studio Lionsgate. The supernatural romance series, based on Stephenie Meyer's novels of the same name, follows a teenager named Bella Swan who becomes involved with the vampire and werewolf world when she meets Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. Bella falls for the former, and she discovers a life so different from her own.
Now, Twilight will get an animated makeover, using the same concepts the books and films are famous for and appeal to millions of fans globally. The new reboot could only reflect the fandom rising from its grave and transcending a new generation.
Speaking with the outlet Variety, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns discussed the plans on March 5th at the Morgan Stanley media conference.
"We're going to go out with the Twilight series as an animated series. I think [there will] be a lot of interest in that," reveals Burns.
As the project is in its very early stages, no talent has been affiliated, but one could hope that whoever's chosen for the roles would bring the magic back, as Twilight enamors it. Part of the reason why the franchise was met with outstanding success was the cast behind it. If the films were remade, no one could take their place, as they were as iconic as the films.
The untombing of Twilight
The Twilight Saga brought in enormous Box Office success, with 2012's Breaking Dawn Part 2 (the last chapter) reeling in nearly $850 million in global assets and being the most profitable of the franchise. The films additionally starred Kirsten Stewart (Bella), Robert Pattinson (Edward), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob), who exploded their careers because of Twilight and became household names.
For the fans, the books and films offered a new romantic narrative and fighting for family dynamics. While supernatural creatures are nonexistent, Twilight offers an exciting take on the realm and coexisting with humans.
