Some romance series hook you from the very beginning and that’s exactly how the Never After series by Emily McIntire is.

Starting with Hooked and ending with Hexed, the series follows some of our favorite fairy tales but with a twist. McIntire has retold many stories and this time, we’re getting a remixed version of The Little Mermaid.

The Never After series is a long-time favorite of the BookTok community and one I was excited to dive into. Upon reading Hooked, I was simply hooked, and from there, I continued to read and love all of the books after that.

With Hexed being the final book, I was so excited to pick it up so I’d like to thank both Bloom Books and Leo PR for sending me an ARC so I was able to read and review this one early.

Hexed is a dark yet enchanting romance you won’t want to put down.

Before getting into my review, I’d just like to take a moment to show some love to Emily McIntire. She has been dealing with so much while writing this book and still got it done. I am so happy I’m able to feature this book and show it some love as Emily McIntire’s books bring me such joy.

Hexed follows Venesa who after losing her mother is put in the care of her uncle, Trent. He’s a gangster in South Carolina and at the start of the book, Venesa goes after her cousin, Aria in New York City. While there, the two stumble upon a body and Venesa tells Aria to stay there and get help.

Aria does as she’s told and ends up being engaged to the man: Enzo. Enzo is an underboss to the New York mafia and his engagement to Aria is strictly business. Of course, Aria doesn’t know any better and neither does Enzo until he meets Venesa. From the jump, these two can’t seem to stay away from each other and while they know nothing can happen, the attraction between them is sizzling.

While I don’t want to give too much away with the plot, Hexed will absolutely have you seated until you finish it. Despite being over 500 pages, I read Hexed in one sitting, and all the twists and turns had me on the floor. If you think you know something, Emily McIntire will pull the rug out from under you in the best way.

Hexed will have you questioning everything from the romance to the relationships, and just how twisted things can be. I utterly adored this book and it’s one I know I’m going to be revisiting at some point. The way that Emily McIntire tells stories and writes these forbidden yet tantalizing pairings just works. If you haven’t started the Never After series yet, what are you waiting for?

Hexed by Emily McIntire is out now where books are sold.
