Don’t let it go! Frozen 4 is already in the works
Before the release of Frozen 3, there were already talks about the production of Frozen 4, as revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger.
The Frozen franchise has become one of the most popular and successful franchises for Disney. The first Frozen film, released in 2013, became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, earning $1,290,000,000 at the worldwide box office, and is among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time.
It was not only a financial success, but a critical success. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Let It Go”, and Best Animated Feature, at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014.
Frozen 2 followed in 2019, and was also both critically and financially successful. The film grossed $1.450 billion worldwide. It received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020 for “Into the Unknown”.
The Frozen franchise has led to the creation of a variety of other Frozen-related titles, including plays, a Broadway musical, books, comics, ice shows, TV miniseries, and theme park attractions.
According to Deadline, both Frozen films count $2.73 billion at the global box office.
As a result, there’s no surprise that Frozen 3 is already in the works. Franchise sequels have proven successful as seen with such examples as comic book films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe, and other franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Shrek, and The Fast and Furious.
What’s interesting is that there is a strong possibility that Frozen 4 is already in the works.
Disney CEO Bob Iger shared on Good Morning America, “Frozen 3’ is in the works, and there might be a ‘Frozen 4’ in the works too…But I don’t have much to say about those films right now. [Director] Jenn Lee, who created the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney animation on not one but actually two stories.”
Kristen Anderson Lopez, one of the songwriters for Frozen, confirmed the news on social media, sharing a statement that said, “ Well, I’ve been quiet here for a while,” she wrote. “But yeah, this.”
The post was followed by hashtags for Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 as well.
This announcement came from Iger as he was promoting the opening of the new “World of Frozen” attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Deadline explains that the attraction, “lets guests not only meet Olaf, Anna and Elsa, but also dine at restaurants and walk the streets that evoke the mystical world of Arendelle.”
Iger praised Disney Parks for their ability to create immersive worlds for guests with various attractions, and Frozen is the latest franchise to join the club.
Iger said, “ Frozen being one of our most valuable franchises, I think it’s just right for building the place that Frozen takes place in….It’s just a fantastic land that enables people to get immersed in the story of Frozen and interact with all the great characters from the films.”
It looks like a great time to be a fan of Frozen as there is a lot to look forward to.
