*NSYNC reunite for first new song in over twenty years
After over twenty years, *NSYNC will reunite for a brand-new song, leaving fans excited for new content.
At one time, the boy band *NSYNC was one of the most popular acts in the world. Forming in 1995, the band, “sold over 70 million records, becoming one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.”
Rolling Stone magazine recognized them as one of the Top 25 Teen Idol Breakout Moments of All Time.
Throughout the years, the five original members of the boy band, which includes Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez have occasionally reunited since 2002, when they last recorded new material, including at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and when they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.
They worked with Epic Rights, a branding and licensing company in 2017 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band in 2018, with Lance Bass sharing in a statement, “The band is thrilled to create an exciting new line of merch with Epic Rights in celebration of our 20th Anniversary.”
The CEO of Epic Rights at the time added that “*NSYNC ushered in the modern age of huge merchandise sales both at their sold-out concerts and at retail. We are certain we will have equal success today.”
The 20th anniversary was marked by the release of their first single “I Want You Back”, which came out in March 1998.
The band earned two number-one hits on the Billboard Pop Airplay chart in the late 1990s and early 2000s with “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me” in 2000. On the Billboard Hot 100, they released songs that landed them, “six top 10s and a lone No. 1 hit,” with “It’s Gonna Be Me,”
These songs came from the album No Strings Attached. Released in March of 2000, No Strings Attached sold 2.4 million copies in its first week, a record that the band kept until Adele’s 25 albums surpassed its week-one sales in 2015.
Their follow-up album, Celebrity, was also number one on the charts, spending a week in the top position in August 2001.
*NSYNC was one of the boy bands that Millennials grew up with in the late 1990s, along with the Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, B2K, and Hanson.
Being without new music from the band for over twenty years led many to wonder if fans would ever hear new music from them again.
After they reunited at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards to present the Best Pop Award to Taylor Swift for her song “Anti-Hero”, Swift proclaimed, “ “Are you guys gonna do something? I need to know what it is!”
As it turns out, they will. Even Taylor Swift is a fan, and along with other fans, she won’t have to wait long for new music from the band for much longer, as it was announced that they will release a new song for the first time since 2002.
The song, “Better Place” was announced on September 14 along with a trailer for the film the song will appear in, Trolls World Tour.
People began speculating about a musical reunion after seeing the first letter of the *NSYNC logo appearing on posters in New York, which featured a QR code that led to the site TakeYouToABetterPlace.com that teased the new song.
*NSYNC member and pop star in his own right, Justin Timberlake, has starred in the previous Trolls films, with his hit song “Can’t Stop The Feeling” featured prominently in the first feature in 2016.
Fans have waited for many years and it’s a great thing to see the long wait has finally paid off as fans are finally getting the new musical content they’ve been yearning for for years from *NSYNC.
