With Heels Season 2 set to premiere on STARZ on July 28, the Duffy Wrestling League’s fate is uncertain. Although the Spade family might have wanted to script the perfect ending, those happily-ever-after fairy tales are not found inside or even outside of the ring. In a new teaser revealed during San Diego Comic-Con, it seems that everyone is hoping to raise the bar and soar to new heights.

When fans of the STARZ show Heels last left the Duffy Wrestling League, the Spade brothers, Jack and Ace, had battled till the end. After learning how one brother orchestrated a storyline to paint the other as a crybaby, there was no love lost between the two. Although the DWL might have planned a spirited end to that ladder match, the outcome was not what anyone had expected. When Crystal grabbed the belt and became champion, everything, both in and out of the ring, took a very different turn.

During San Diego Comic Con, STARZ released a new teaser trailer for Heels Season 2.

While this video shows the wrestlers, their signature moves, and their athleticism in the ring, the reality is that the entertainment of the “show” spills over into the wrestlers’ real lives. Even after the ice packs melt and the masks are put in the bag, separating the character from the person is not like turning off a switch. It seems that personal dynamics and relationships will be the focus of Season 2.

Even for people who did not appreciate the difference between the “heel” and the “face” characters before watching this STARZ show, the family drama beyond the ring is relatable. A family business is never easy, brothers can butt heads, and people can lose their way. Even if there is a longing for that fairy tale to become reality, the dream often does not come true.

For the wrestling fan, the Heels Season 1 ending opens a whole new storyline for Season 2. The DWL does not have women in the ring. Instead of playing valet to the men, Crystal could pin down a big role in the storyline. How and if that concept comes to fruition remains to be seen.

Add into the conversation all the other characters and it sounds like the ultimate rumble in the ring. While fans cheer for the characters, that applause can only fuel so many broken dreams.

How will Heels Season 2 unfold? Be sure to tune into STARZ on July 28 at 10 p.m. ET or watch the STARZ app starting at midnight ET.
