Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s 7-year marriage comes to an end

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are the latest celebrity couple to call it quits. The Modern Family actress and the True Blood actor announced their separation on Monday, July 17.

In a statement to Page Six, the couple revealed their plans to divorce and asked for privacy.

"“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”"

This was Manganiello’s first marriage, and the second for Vergara, who was married to Joe Gonzalez with whom she has a son Manolo.

Vergara and Manganiello began dating in June 2014. The couple was first introduced by Vergara’s Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. At the time, Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb, but the pair broke up a few weeks later.

When Manganiello learned Vergara was single, he asked Ferguson for Vergara’s phone number. The couple hit it off and six months later they were engaged.  While their relationship moved quickly, Manganiello revealed to Haute Living, he didn’t have any doubts Vergara was the one.

"“Our first date was in June, and then I proposed to her on Christmas Eve; [we dated for] about six months. When you know, you know, and we knew right away – like very quickly.”"

The couple married in November 2015 with their Modern Family and True Blood co-stars in attendance. Vergara and Manganiello weren’t shy about sharing their private life on social media. The America’s Got Talent judge couldn’t resist gushing about her handsome hubby on Instagram.

A month before their split, Vergara and Manganiello enjoyed a date night in New York. Recently, Manganiello was absent from Vergara’s birthday vacation in Italy.

Although the news comes at a bittersweet time for Vergara, the actress was all smiles during her vacation. As for Manganiello, he gave his soon-to-be ex-wife a sweet birthday shoutout a week before their separation.

The exes appear to be keeping things amicable as they adjust to this new change in their lives.
