Kate Middleton made her first appearance at Wimbledon since becoming Princess of Wales. A royal expert says the princess seemed “joyful and content”. The expert also points out some of the striking similarities between Kate and the late Princess Diana. Here’s what he had to say about her Wimbledon appearance.

Kate Middleton ‘displayed genuine joy,’ says royal expert

Kate appeared to be relaxed and having fun at the tennis event. In most of her photos, she had a wide smile. The princess seemed to brighten up when she was greeted by tennis star Roger Federer. She and Federer spent time together while watching the ball boys and ball girls train for Wimbledon.

“To see the training and the dedication and the amount of time that’s put into training and making sure this goes well on the day for the champions who are playing at Wimbledon is incredible to see,” said Kate during a promotional video.

Royal expert Darren Stanton says Kate seemed joyful during Wimbledon. He notes her facial expressions and the body language she used. According to him, it seemed like she felt right at home.

“In terms of body language and facial gestures, Kate displayed genuine joy, which is apparent as her whole face is engaged,” says Stanton on behalf of Betfair Bingo. “It’s fairly obvious when somebody is uncomfortable in a situation as their face isn’t engaged. In every shot I’ve seen of Kate, she appears to be lapping up the atmosphere and clearly loves being at Wimbledon.”

The Princess of Wales isn’t afraid to have fun

Although the royal family is mostly reserved, Kate lets her hair down now and then. Stanton says she was clearly having a good time at Wimbledon, and she appeared to be laughing and joking.

“What comes over from the photos of her today is that she has a great sense of fun, happiness, and humor,” Stanton adds. “There’s one particular shot where she is pulling a face jokingly, which shows she is keen to display a sense of normalcy in her gestures. She doesn’t want to be seen as far removed from normal people and society. While she acknowledges that she is a senior member of the royal family, Kate isn’t averse to being seen as having a laugh and a joke.”

Kate Middleton has Princess Diana’s ‘force field’

Throughout the years, Kate’s confidence has grown, according to Stanton. He says Kate has reached the point where she appears comfortable enough to navigate royal engagements on her own. Although they work well together, it’s clear she doesn’t need to have Prince William by her side every step of the way. The princess can hold her own during royal events.

Stanton says Kate has the late Princess Diana’s “inner force field.” He marvels at how self-assured she has become during her time as a royal family member.

“She is very independent and clearly isn’t afraid to take on any engagement without her husband, Prince William,” says Stanton. “She is very confident now—more so than ever. She has got that inner source of force field that Princess Diana once had.”
