Boston figure skating fans are in for a real treat this weekend, with Olympic champion Nathan Chen making a rare Boston-area appearance, where he’ll bring his showman skills to the Skating Club of Boston’s Ice Chips performance, “Full Throttle,” over the weekend. The three-time World and six-time U.S. Champion is starring in the theatrical skating show that will take place on Fri, Apr. 7, and have two performances on Sat, Apr. 8.

"“We are thrilled to not only have the world-renowned Nathan Chen here for Ice Chips, but to bring this event back after putting it on hold for three years due to the pandemic,” said Doug Zeghibe, CEO & Executive Director of The Skating Club of Boston. “We’ve hosted several successful events recently, including the international Skate America competition in October.  It’s incredibly rewarding to see skating fans from around the world enjoying skating competitions and theatrical shows in our new, state-of-the-art facility.”"

Returning after a three-year hiatus and billed as a high-energy theatrical performance, the Ice Chips show will feature contemporary choreography set to music that spans decades (so fun for multi-generations!). “Full Throttle” Performances will take place at Tenley E. Albright Performance Center at The Skating Club of Boston in Norwood, MA.

Boston figure skating fans are about to be spoiled with the ISU World Figure Skating Championships heading here in 2025. The Skating Club of Boston helped make it happen, which was announced last Fall.

“We had one of the most successful World Championships back in 2016 in Boston, so we’re even more optimistic for the growth and success we can bring to the event in 2025,” said Doug Zeghibe, Executive Director for The Skating Club of Boston and the local organizing committee for the 2025 Championships, via the press release in Oct 2022. “Boston is a figure skating town with sophisticated and passionate fans who not only love to follow the sport but truly appreciate the work these skaters put in year after year. We are thrilled to support U.S. Figure Skating as the local host for the event, and to help welcome the world back to Boston.”

If you’re a figure skating fan like me, it always seems like I’m always watching live coverage at odd hours in the night because it’s taking place in an international location across the other side of the world, like this year’s competition in Saitama, Japan. It will be nice having the marquee event in my backyard!

The 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships will headline the RD Garden Center in March 2025.

In the meantime, you can check out the reigning Gold Medalist, Nathan Chen, in the Ice Chips show at the Skating Club of Boston this weekend. For more information and tickets, please check the skating club’s website.
