Eloise Bridgerton should take center stage in season four. Bridgerton has decided to deviate from the novel’s chronological order by crafting season three around Colin and Penelope’s love story.

Although Benedict Bridgerton’s love story was the original story of the third novel, the Netflix series has changed course, focusing instead on the slow-burn romance between Colin and Penelope. So, season four should follow Eloise, the next sibling in line who has made the most significant impact.

Eloise was never excited about participating in society but was also the most charismatic sibling of the bunch. However, of the remaining siblings who have not been married, Eloise is by far the most developed.

While it would make sense for Bridgerton to want to circle back around to Benedict after Colin and Penelope have their chance to shine, Benedict’s role so far has not justified him being the leader of a love story. Unless season three gives Benedict a needed upgrade in screen time and character development, his character is too bland as of seasons one and two to be the main love interest.

Eloise, however, has never suffered from that problem. Her dialogue is filled with wit and intelligence, and her perspective on searching for a love interest is very telling, even though season two showed that with the right person, she might not be against romantic companionship.

Having Eloise, an already strong character, at the helm of season four could also offer more time in the subplot for Benedict and the younger Bridgerton siblings to gain more involvement, as seeing them more involved in the background could help set up their potential love stories.

Netflix has yet to renew Bridgerton beyond season four, and if season four were to conclude with Benedict’s love story rather than Eloise’s, it might not feel as earned to end the series in such a way. However, if Netflix does renew Bridgerton beyond season four, giving Eloise the spotlight in the fourth season works on two fronts.

For one, her character gets to grow in ways that have yet to be seen. For another, it offers more time for her siblings to gain the development they need to become strong leads in the future.

Eloise is a capable character, and offering her the leading role in the fourth season would allow the show to focus on someone who had been an integral part of the series from the beginning and see what it takes for her to fall in love.
