So Help Me Todd: A Reunion With The Devil

SO HELP ME TODD stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright (Harden) and Todd (Astin), her talented but scruffy, aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. Mother and son working together is a big first step toward mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship, and they may even come away with a better understanding of each other at this pivotal point in their lives. But whether Margaret and Todd will be able to accept each other for who they are is another case entirely. SO HELP ME TODD airs this fall on Thursdays (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. When a new case is complex for Margaret, Lyle, and Todd to solve alone, Todd seeks help from an unexpected source. Previously, So Help Me Todd had revealed how Todd’s previous success had ended in a downward spiral. His last mentor, Veronica, had taught Todd and encouraged his excitement and curiosity in investigative work while also using him as the fall guy for her various crimes.

Veronica’s actions are why Todd ended up without a license, homeless, and was unemployed. Todd had been slowly working his way back toward success while joining his mother’s firm. But, when Todd knows Veronica can get him answers from inside prison, he goes back into old bad habits.

Even though Todd knows reconnecting with Veronica is terrible, he does it to help Margaret solve a critical case. Margaret has helped him so much, and Todd wants to repay the favor.

However, it ends up being more than just one conversation. Todd continues to get information from Veronica under the guise that she knows she owes Todd for ruining his life.

Once getting back in contact with Veronica, something changes in Todd. Although Todd usually is confident in his investigative skills, he contacts Veronica for help with things he could typically do alone.

Todd ignores the problems reconnecting with Veronica could cause. However, by the conclusion of “The Devil You Know,” Todd admits he knows it was wrong to contact Veronica, and in their final meeting, he tells her this is goodbye. But is it?

Although Todd and Margaret continue to believe Veronica needs to serve more time in prison, as it turns out, Veronica has been taking advantage of Todd again. Unknown to him, Veronica used helping Todd with the case as leverage to get herself out of prison.

Will Veronica go back to causing chaos in Todd’s life? It seems he wants to improve his life, and his family is aware of Veronica’s negative impacts on his life.

Suppose Veronica continued on So Help Me Todd. In that case, it could create a more personal villain or even allow Todd to flip the script on Veronica and catch her rather than having Veronica take advantage of him again.

Will Todd come out unscathed? Or, will his reunion with Veronica cause a ripple effect in his life that Todd could never have seen coming?
