6 Christmas romance books to read in December (2022)
It’s the most wonderful time of year…to read some romance books. All joking aside, there are plenty of holiday romances out there.
The major holiday celebrated during this season is obviously Christmas. Lots of romance authors either decide to write short little Christmas novellas or even sometimes, full-length Christmas romances. Either way, there is something inherently romantic about the Christmas season.
For most of us, the magic of Christmas went away years ago, but these romance books help give you some of that magic back. However, if you have kids, the magic is probably still there and if not, you’ll have time to either read these before the big day or on Christmas.
Regardless of when you decide to pick up these romance books, all of these are a good choice if you’re looking to feel holly and jolly or want to see someone’s tinsel get tangled (in the best way!)
These Christmas romance books are a holiday treat if you’re a reader.
I know that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but there is something so comforting about reading a Christmas-themed romance book. I don’t know if it’s just me but I love opening a romance book, having a cup of hot chocolate, and snuggling up in a blanket. That’s the perfect way to spend a winter evening if you ask me so let’s get into the six Christmas reads I’m recommending for 2022.
1. Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison
If I had to pick a favorite Christmas read this year, it has to be Lovelight Farms. While it might not be completely Christmas-related, it’s such an amazing romance. This is a friends-to-lovers romance between Luka and Stella who are long-time best friends. Stella ropes him into being her fake boyfriend in order to impress an influencer and help save the Christmas tree farm she owns.
This book has all the Christmas vibes you’re looking for, mutual pining, forced proximity, and so much tension and angst it’ll make you want to combust. This is a pretty popular one, but I will say I absolutely adored this romance, all of the characters and everything about it felt so comforting to me.
2. Miracle on Ladies’ Mile by Joanna Shupe
One goal I had for myself in 2022 was to read all of Joanna Shupe’s romance books and this is one I couldn’t leave off my list. This is a historical romance novella featuring Grace, a window dresser for a department store, and the romance she unknowingly has with the store’s owner, Alex. Grace is sunshine while Alex is a grumpy single dad.
Despite being short, there was so much delicious tension between these two and it’s clear we’re all waiting for the shoe to drop. Even when it does, things only get better from there. I just adored this one.
3. Love Me For Christmas by B. Love
If you’re looking for a Black love story set at Christmas, Love Me For Christmas is a good one. This is a romance between Giselle, a matchmaker, and Chaquille, the man she accidentally meets after a failed date. While it takes a bit of time before Giselle meets the man she’s met to be with, you can’t help but laugh at the situations she deals with before meeting him.
Once the two meet though, it’s clear they’re meant to be together despite how hesitant they both are to commit. For Giselle, it’s more about her recent dating fails while Chaquille is still grieving the loss of his wife. If you’re looking for a cute and sweet Christmas romance, this novella is a good pick.
4. Her Christmas Wish: A Sweet Heat Holiday Novella by Karmen Lee
Moving onto another Black love story, I’ve already sung Karmen Lee’s praises before but this Christmas novella by her is a delight. This is a sapphic Christmas romance between Rocky and Georgia who is Rocky’s sister’s best friend. The two reconnect after Georgia is invited to the family Christmas.
While it might not be as well-developed as it could be, I felt like this book was super fun and steamy. Plus it’s very rare to find steamy sapphic stories especially set during Christmas time but this one is solid. It’s also available on Kindle Unlimited.
5. True Love for Christmas by D. Rose
The next Christmas romance recommendation is another Black love story. This is a combination of two tropes: second chance and friends-to-lovers. Noel is unexpectedly reunited with her best friend, Chris after the two lose touch because he went to visit his estranged father while she took a local teaching job.
While this one does have its emotional moments, it’s incredible to watch these two reconnect and see their friendship blossom along with something more. This is another novella-length story, too so it’s perfect for reading either right before or on Christmas.
6. Santa Baby by Cassie Mint
Last but certainly not least, I wanted to feature at least one “Santa” romance. While I know the idea of Santa being hot is blasphemy for some, I wanted to feature one that wasn’t truly Santa and Santa Baby does just that.
If you’re looking for something with a lot of substance, then this one isn’t for you. If you’re looking for an age gap between an older man, and a younger woman. If you don’t mind a guy who is sweet but also kinda could be a hotter Santa Claus, then you’ll enjoy Santa Baby. It’s super steamy and fun so it’s the perfect thing to read before Santa comes to visit.
