There are truly no words to describe 2022. Even so, there were plenty of great shows to enjoy including Our Flag Means Death.

On the whole, 2022 has been an okay year for entertainment. There are been plenty of highs and lows, especially for TV watchers. All in all, there were plenty of enjoyable shows that you might have picked out.

When narrowing it down, I knew I wanted to talk about a show that was not only super quick to watch but also a lot of fun. The holidays are all about taking things slow, enjoying the small moments, and wanting all of those cozy vibes which is something that people tend to forget about.

However, if you’re looking to slow down and enjoy a show you might have missed, then Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max is a must-stream.

HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death is perfect for a holiday weekend watch.

The holidays can be a stressful time so it’s only natural to want something comforting and that’s exactly what Our Flag Means Death is. Despite the title, the show is actually about a pirate named Stede Bonnet who is an unorthodox pirate captain. Essentially, he’s a proper gentleman masquerading as a pirate.

He’s joined by his lovable and rag-tag crew including Lucius, Frenchie, Jim, Oluwande, and Buttons. All of them have very distinct personalities and frankly, try to keep Stede out of as much danger as possible. While the crew usually isn’t successful, it is hilarious to see their efforts and also see just what Stede will get into.

While Stede does get himself into some unlikely situations, the most unique situation he gets into is meeting Blackbeard. Yes, the famous Blackbeard pirate captain and the two quickly form a friendship and eventually, a bit more. It’s honestly such a fun twist on the typical pirate show with lots of jokes, off-the-wall moments, and even, a bit of romance for those who enjoy that.

What makes the show so enjoyable is simply put, the cast. Stede is played by Rhys Darby while Blackbeard is played by Taika Waititi. The crew is played by a plethora of actors including Samson Kayo, Con O’Neill, Vico Ortiz, and Kristian Nairn. That’s not even mentioning some of the guest stars which include Leslie Jones, Fred Armisen, Kristen Schaal, and Will Arnett.

If all those reasons weren’t enough to convince you, you’ll be happy to know that the series has 10 episodes and most of them are under 40 minutes. Additionally, the show has already been renewed for Season 2 so you’ll have time to catch up before the new season premieres. Our Flag Means Death is also a lot of fun, too.
