Shopping for holiday gifts is never easy; things are only magnified when buying something for a romance book lover.

As someone who is a certified book lover, I can admit that a lot of my Christmas list consists of books that I either read and loved or books I hope I’m going to love. Either way, it’s not always easy to find something for the reader in your life.

While many of these gift suggestions are centered around romance readers, you can adapt this to any type of reader. It’s also good to keep in mind that you don’t want to guess what genre someone likes as that can end in disaster. If you don’t know, maybe just slip them a gift card.

1. A special edition of a beloved romance series

The first option that immediately came to mind was a special edition of a book series the person you’re shopping for loves. The one featured in this post is the 10th anniversary of the Fifty Shades of Grey series. The series was so huge and I remember a lot of people picking it up at the height of its popularity so this is a good idea. Even if you didn’t love the series, let’s just be honest and say that these editions are beautiful so I had to feature them after Bloom Books kindly sent me a set of my own.

2. A signed book

As you imagine, buying a special edition of a romance book isn’t always an option. If you’re shopping for someone who has a specific favorite author or book, you could try and find a signed copy. Depending on if they’re a local author or local to somewhere close to you, you might be able to find a bookstore or look on the author’s website/social media as they usually share when they are signing copies or have a website where you can order them.

3. A book sleeve

If you’re looking for something to get the romance lover in your life and don’t know their favorite author or book, a book sleeve is a good alternative. If you didn’t know, a book sleeve is a pouch you can carry your book in. It’s made out of fabric and is essentially a way to make sure your book is protected rather than having it loose in your bag. 4. Gift a bookish subscription

This is a very recent discovery of mine, but Amazon actually allows you to gift someone with a Kindle Unlimited membership. Kindle Unlimited is basically a lending library for a lot of romance books and is a good way to try out romance authors without committing to buying an ebook from them. Additionally, if you’re shopping for an audiobook reader, you could gift them an Audible subscription. While those are two popular services, you can also gift someone with a LibroFM, Scribd, or even a book box subscription. Either way, this is a unique gift on the list.

5. When in doubt, go with a gift card

If you’re shopping for the romance book lover in your life, you really can’t go wrong with a gift card. I know that some people feel strange about giving gift cards around the holidays, but it’s essentially the same thing as giving someone cash. It’s smart if you don’t know what type of books they might enjoy so rather than gifting something they’ll never read, give them a gift card so they can pick out what they want.

Frankly, you can never go wrong with gift cards to places like Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but you could end up getting them a gift card for Apple to use Apple Books, one for Kobo, or even one for Starbucks or Dunkin’. Honestly, if you’re a reader, you can’t go wrong with a cup of joe or even, hot chocolate to give you a boost.
