Apple TV+ Series “Surface” Renewed For Season 2

Apple TV+ has officially renewed its mystery thriller, Surface,  for a second season. Considering the many massive plot twists and cliffhangers season one ends with, a second season may deliver significant answers.

Season one followed Sophie Ellis after a failed suicide attempt that left her alive but with amnesia. With no memory of her past, Sophie is left to rely on others, such as her husband James, her affair partner Thomas Baden, and friend Caroline for answers. But, considering Sophie was highly secretive previous to her amnesia, no one knows that much about her or her secrets.

Sophie tries to put the pieces together about her actual reality, relationships, and motives by questioning James, Thomas, and Caroline, all due to her theory that Sophie had not jumped but was pushed off the boat.

Sophie’s blurry memory and encouragement from Thomas have Sophie consider that someone had been out to get her, and she goes through a variety of motives as she tries to land on the correct suspect and the truth about what had indeed happened in her life leading up to the moment she ends up in the water.

Had someone attempted to kill Sophie because she knew too much? Did she try and kill herself? Sophie goes through the emotional wringer as, one by one, many of the people in her life reveal truths they believe led up to the moment Sophie’s life changed forever.

However, Surface does not allow Sophie to sit on one theory for too long before pulling the rug out from underneath her, as her mind strives to put together the increasingly more confusing pieces of her past and who she indeed was.

Sophie’s life was not perfect, but it was far more complicated than she likely initially thought. Surface does not hold back in continuing to twist the story and the mystery until the season finale finally reveals the shocking truth surrounding the circumstances behind Sophie’s accident.

Sophie had not intended suicide when she jumped off the boat but had planned to fake her death and run away to London. However, when Sophie realizes what she has been attempting to do, she jumps at the chance to follow the lead and understand why she had desired to leave her life in San Francisco behind.

As season one concluded, Sophie returned to London, determined to find answers about her past and the blips of memories she has been receiving. But will James and their past remain history? Only season two can tell how Sophie’s past will catch up to her.
