Is Hy-Vee open on Thanksgiving? (2022)
By Cody Schultz
Hy-Vee might not be a national chain, but it’s a go-to retailer for those in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin, it’s one of the most popular grocery stores and a go-to destination for those in need of some odds and ends.
While many of us try our best to get all of our holiday shopping done before the holiday, there always ends up being one thing that falls through the cracks. Be it an ingredient for a dish or something for the dinner table, there’s nothing more stressful than when you need to head out to pick up one last item on a holiday.
Not only do stores tend to be quite busy on holidays — filled with others out doing some last-minute shopping — but it can be so hard to know which stores happen to be open. This is because many stores choose to close for certain holidays, making it difficult to know which will and won’t be open when it comes time to head out for a last-minute shopping trip.
Is Hy-Vee closed on Thanksgiving? (2022)
If you’re hoping to head out to your local Hy-Vee this Thanksgiving, we’ve got some bad news for you. The grocery chain will not be open on Thanksgiving this year, meaning you won’t be able to head out to your local store to pick up any supplies on Nov. 24.
While many stores have closed their doors for the Thanksgiving holiday in the past, this will actually mark the first time Hy-Vee stores will be closing on Thanksgiving in the chain’s 92-year history. The decision to close stores on Thanksgiving was made in looking to give its more than 80,000 employees the day off to spend with their loved ones.
So if you’ve found yourself racing out to Hy-Vee in the past on Thanksgiving to pick up those final ingredients or even a store-ready dessert to bring to dinner, you’re going to want to make sure to keep in mind that the grocery chain will not be open this year.
