If there’s one trope horror fans love, it’s the final girl and one we rarely hear about is Nancy Thompson from A Nightmare on Elm Street.

When the term “final girl” is used, a lot of us associate that with Laurie Strode. With Jamie Lee Curtis reprising the role for likely the final time, it’s no surprise that a lot of other final girls would come out of the woodwork.

One of these is Heather Langenkamp who famously played Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street as Freddy’s final girl. Upon her role in The Midnight Club, Lagenkamp shared that she’d like to revisit the role once more via Collider, “If Nancy could fight Freddy one last time, I would really like that.”

With the quote from Langenkamp and Halloween on the cusp, there needs to be a call to action to see Nancy and Freddy face off.

A Nancy-Freddy battle is a must for Nightmare on Elm Street and final girl fans.

Unlike Halloween, The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has been rebooted but certainly, not in the correct way. If anything, it only angered fans of the beloved horror franchise. With the mixed success of the Halloween reboot, it’s time Nightmare on Elm Street took a turn.

With someone like Heather Langenkamp endorsing it, there is no reason why we shouldn’t see a final showdown between Nancy and Freddy. It’s obvious both Langenkamp and Robert Englund are still working. No doubt there are still a lot of stories to be told as evidenced by other horror franchises.

Looking back at the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, the final “official” film was Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. However, we also got Wes Craven’s New Nightmare which follows Freddy as he’s actually going after Heather Langenkamp along with 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. As you can see, there is definitely room for Freddy and Nancy to meet once again.

Similar to how Laurie and Michael faced off, I think it’d be cool to see Nancy and Freddy face off but in a slightly different way. Of course, he’d still come in her dreams but I feel like it’d be interesting if he invaded her entire family’s dreams like her kids and grandkids but she’d finally had enough and gives him what he really deserved.

Either way, I feel like there is no reason why A Nightmare on Elm Street shouldn’t be given the proper reboot treatment. Nancy Thompson is an iconic final girl while Freddy Krueger is an iconic horror villain. There’s really no way we’d lose out aside from the fact that no one would want to touch what Wes Craven had crafted while he was still here.
